Job Overview

Equity Bank Tanzania Limited is seeking an experienced professional to oversee strategy execution governance and maintain visibility across the bank’s enterprise transformation portfolio.

The successful candidate will coordinate the translation of strategic priorities into executable initiatives, ensuring that each initiative has clear ownership, defined milestones, measurable targets, and appropriate governance arrangements.

The role will establish and maintain a consolidated view of strategic and transformation initiatives, coordinate executive reporting, monitor delivery risks, and ensure that commitments made by the Board, Managing Director, Executive Committee (EXCO), and other stakeholders are tracked through to completion.

The position requires strong programme governance, stakeholder management, executive communication, and project portfolio management capabilities. The successful candidate must be able to maintain governance standards and accountability while working with senior stakeholders across a complex banking environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Strategy-to-Execution Translation and Portfolio Visibility

  • Coordinate enterprise transformation initiatives, ensuring that programmes are appropriately governed, aligned, monitored, and reported across the bank.
  • Translate strategic priorities into clearly defined initiatives with assigned owners, milestones, deliverables, and measurable performance targets.
  • Manage the formal registration and scoping of initiatives before they enter the portfolio tracker.
  • Ensure all initiatives originating from Board directives, EXCO commitments, Group mandates, and workstream expansions follow established intake and governance procedures.
  • Maintain a consolidated portfolio view of strategic and transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure strategic objectives, delivery plans, performance targets, and transformation outcomes remain aligned across departments and programmes.
  • Support initiative prioritization and sequencing based on strategic importance, dependencies, and institutional exposure.
  • Align initiative delivery and performance monitoring with the institutional Balanced Scorecard.

2. Governance Reporting

  • Prepare structured reports for the Board, EXCO, Management Committee (ManCo), Steering Committees (SteerCo), and other governance forums.
  • Maintain Red, Amber, and Green (RAG) status reporting across the initiative portfolio.
  • Coordinate and quality-assure committee reports and presentation packs to meet executive reporting standards.
  • Coordinate the preparation of Strategic Execution Health Reports for submission to the Managing Director.
  • Provide clear and reliable updates on initiative performance, delivery status, risks, and transformation progress.

3. Directive, Decision and Risk Governance

  • Maintain the Board, Managing Director, and EXCO Directive Execution Log.
  • Track executive directives and Board commitments through to completion, ensuring visible ownership and accountability.
  • Maintain a structured decision register documenting approvals, decisions, assumptions, dependencies, and management actions.
  • Maintain issue, risk, and dependency logs, ensuring unresolved matters receive appropriate attention and action.
  • Escalate material governance and delivery risks through established protocols where institutional exposure exists.
  • Preserve transparent, accurate, and audit-ready governance records.

4. Delivery Governance and Coordination

  • Establish and maintain a disciplined governance schedule for programme and initiative delivery.
  • Manage the formal change-control process for active portfolio initiatives.
  • Assess, document, and obtain appropriate approval for changes to scope, timelines, budgets, and resource assumptions.
  • Maintain controlled project baselines to support reliable milestone tracking and RAG assessments.
  • Map dependencies across initiatives and identify sequencing conflicts that could threaten delivery commitments.
  • Maintain a portfolio-wide resource and capacity conflict tracker.
  • Identify competing demands for subject matter experts, IT resources, branch network access, and departmental capacity, escalating conflicts before they affect delivery.
  • Manage formal initiative close-out procedures, ensuring deliverables are accepted, lessons are documented, accountability is discharged, and records are retained.
  • Maintain stakeholder maps and monitor stakeholder influence and engagement across EXCO-level stakeholders.

5. Execution Governance and Management Platforms

  • Maintain accurate and current portfolio information through programme management platforms such as Monday.com or equivalent systems.
  • Promote consistent application of governance procedures across strategic initiatives.
  • Apply Business Excellence operating principles, including enterprise-first thinking, clear accountability, evidence-based intervention, and a culture of responsibility for results.
  • Ensure portfolio information remains reliable and supports effective decision-making and execution oversight.
