Job Purpose

The System Administrator – Linux & Virtualization will be responsible for administering, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing enterprise Linux and virtualized infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Linux & Server Administration

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux servers, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES).
  • Manage and troubleshoot Linux networking, DNS, SSH, storage, users, permissions, and system processes.
  • Perform operating-system patching, upgrades, lifecycle management, and system hardening.

VMware & Virtualization

  • Administer VMware vSphere, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines.
  • Provision, configure, migrate, optimize, and decommission virtual machines.
  • Manage virtual CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources.
  • Perform virtualization patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.

Infrastructure Monitoring & Support

  • Monitor server, VM, and infrastructure availability, performance, capacity, and health.
  • Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure issues.
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 technical support.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure incidents and conduct root-cause analysis within agreed SLAs.

Storage, Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Support enterprise SAN/NAS storage environments.
  • Troubleshoot storage connectivity, performance, and capacity issues.
  • Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity environments.
  • Monitor backups and participate in recovery testing.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain security controls across Linux and virtualization environments.
  • Manage access controls and support vulnerability remediation.
  • Ensure infrastructure complies with applicable security and compliance requirements.

Projects & Automation

  • Participate in infrastructure implementations, migrations, upgrades, and technology-refresh projects.
  • Support high-availability, disaster-recovery, and business-continuity configurations.
  • Develop scripts and use automation tools to streamline administration and maintenance activities.

Documentation & Collaboration

Maintain technical documentation covering:

  • Infrastructure configurations
  • Architecture diagrams
  • Standard operating procedures
  • Implementation records
  • Troubleshooting guides

Collaborate with Network, Database, Security, Application, technical teams, vendors, and customers to maintain reliable enterprise infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Demonstrable experience administering Red Hat and/or SUSE Linux environments.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
  • Experience in enterprise data-centre or infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
  • Experience with enterprise storage, backup, and disaster-recovery technologies is an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure implementation and migration projects is an advantage.

Professional Certifications

The following certifications are an added advantage:

  • RHCSA – Red Hat Certified System Administrator
  • RHCE – Red Hat Certified Engineer
  • SUSE Certified Administrator
  • SUSE Certified Engineer
  • VCP – VMware Certified Professional
  • Other relevant VMware, Linux, cloud, networking, or infrastructure certifications
