Job Objective

The Technical Aid 2, UG Geology will provide effective geological field and sampling support to the Underground Geology team. The role involves accurate and timely sampling, geological mapping, drilling support, data collection, and routine underground geological activities in accordance with GGML standards and procedures.

Role Accountabilities

  • Perform all assigned underground geological duties in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures, site requirements, and applicable health and safety standards.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of safety, environmental compliance, housekeeping, and professional conduct during all geological activities.
  • Prepare geological samples and sample dispatches in accordance with established procedures and required quality standards.
  • Adhere to QA/QC procedures throughout all sampling and sample-handling activities to ensure the integrity and reliability of geological data.
  • Inspect underground RC and diamond drill core samples, ensuring samples are clean, properly identified, correctly labelled, and prepared in accordance with approved sampling procedures.
  • Undertake diamond drilling core and RC sampling activities in accordance with geological sampling protocols and QA/QC requirements.
  • Conduct underground face and grab sampling accurately and systematically to support geological interpretation, grade control, and resource evaluation activities.
  • Ensure all samples are correctly collected, labelled, documented, and securely handed over to the Resource Evaluation team for laboratory submission.
  • Assist Geologists and Geological Technicians with underground face and development mapping, ensuring geological observations and data are accurately captured.
  • Assist Geologists and Geological Technicians with routine inspections of underground production stopes, development areas, and stockpiles, identifying and reporting relevant geological observations.
  • Support the Underground Geologist and Geological Technicians in executing daily operational and technical activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.
  • Maintain readiness to perform underground field activities as required, including drilling quality monitoring, geological mapping support, and underground drill site and drill rig inspections.
  • Monitor drilling activities and sample quality, identify sampling or drilling issues, and promptly report them to the responsible Geologist.
  • Properly operate and maintain the allocated light vehicle, including maintaining cleanliness, conducting routine checks, and ensuring timely submission to the workshop for scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Exercise authority to intervene and stop unsafe acts or tasks.
  • Communicate with drilling contractors as required for operational coordination.
  • Verify and report geological material identification and sampling requirements associated with underground material movement.
  • Participate in laboratory, drilling, and QA/QC audits as required.
  • Support implementation of HSE procedures and standards across relevant work areas.
  • Coordinate sample and geological material logistics with relevant teams to ensure timely availability and submission.

Role Requirements

Education and Qualifications

  • Secondary school certificate or equivalent.
  • Additional training or qualification in Geology or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
  • Must be physically fit and medically capable of working in an underground environment.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving licence.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an underground mining environment.
  • Previous experience supporting geological activities, sampling, drilling, geological mapping, or grade control will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated competency in operating manual light vehicles in a mine-site environment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of geological sampling and underground mining practices is desirable.
  • Competence in operating a manual light vehicle.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of underground geology and geological sampling techniques.
  • Strong commitment to HSE standards, procedures, and safe working practices.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with team members and contractors.
