About the Role
Diageo is seeking a Technical Operator – Packaging to operate and maintain packaging machinery, perform autonomous maintenance, ensure quality at source, and support the Asset Care team with maintenance activities.
The role is part of Diageo’s Supply Chain & Manufacturing function, which is responsible for production, logistics, engineering and delivering products to customers.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Starting, operating, shutting down and monitoring equipment according to SOPs.
- Following Environment, Health and Safety procedures and standards.
- Capturing accurate production data and updating reporting platforms.
- Maintaining high standards of equipment and workplace hygiene.
- Ensuring products meet required quality standards.
- Performing Quality at Source activities.
- Operating equipment within specified design parameters.
- Promoting quality and food-safety practices.
- Maintaining and safely operating machinery under their control.
- Conducting look-listen-feel inspections and initiating maintenance work requests.
- Supporting equipment maintenance and reducing machine downtime.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be measured through areas including:
- Production volumes and quality standards
- Machine hygiene and 5S performance
- Changeover time
- Machine downtime reduction
- Preventive maintenance completion
- Adherence to Standardized Work and SIC requirements
- Material usage versus plan
- Bottle breakage reduction
- Water usage
- Reduction of rework and product rejection
- PPE compliance
- Completion of 5-Why investigations
- Beer-loss reduction
- Bottle cleanliness
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should have:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A certificate in an appropriate engineering discipline is an added advantage.
- At least 1 year of experience or demonstrated competence in:
- Operations
- Maintenance
- Process control
- Performance measurement
- Experience in a brewery, beverage, food manufacturing or similar production environment is required/preferred.
