About Geita Gold Mining Ltd

The mine is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of northwestern Tanzania, approximately 85 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. Objective of the role

The Technician 2 – Exploration drilling will support geological and geotechnical exploration activities across field campaigns, drilling programs, and Core Yard operations to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant exploration outcomes.

Role accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead HSE compliance by conducting toolbox meetings, identifying hazards with the team, and implementing appropriate control measures.
  • Perform in-field geological mapping.
  • Assist with rock sampling and accurate recording of geological information, including GPS data.
  • Oversee drill site preparation and supervise Technician 1 to ensure quality access roads and drilling platforms are delivered.
  • Ensure steep terrain procedures are followed during drill site preparation.
  • During drilling activities, document diamond core recovery.
  • Oversee RC sampling quality and ensure best practices are followed.
  • Verify rig setup and collar alignment.
  • Conduct geotechnical logging and Core Yard activities.
  • Manage sampling and preparation for laboratory analysis.
  • Keep the project geologist informed of drilling progress.
  • Support ground geophysical surveys and downhole survey quality control.
  • Communicate deviations clearly and promptly.
  • Coach subordinates and stop work when conditions are unsafe.

Role requirements

Education and qualifications

Applicants should have one of the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Geology or Geoscience-related fields.
  • Secondary School Certificate with extensive equivalent field experience in the same field.

Experience

Applicants must meet the following experience requirements:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of working experience for Diploma holders.
  • More than 7 years of working experience in exploration drilling environments, geotechnical logging, and field data collection for Secondary School Certificate holders.

Knowledge and skills

Applicants should possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Computer literacy in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good experience in exploration drilling operations, geotechnical logging, and field data collection.
  • Strong commitment to HSE practices and operational standards.
  • Driving experience with a valid Tanzanian driving licence or mine site driving permit. This is mandatory.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead small teams.
  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
