Summary of Responsibilities
The Trade Finance Manager will be responsible for driving, structuring, and managing the Bank’s trade finance portfolio, with a focus on off-balance-sheet contingent liabilities within approved sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
- Generate non-funded income from all off-balance-sheet (OBS) items.
- Support the Business Team (BM, RM, ROs) to plan, implement, and control sales strategies to maximize new and repeat sales from accounts.
- Manage and monitor team workflow across the bank network in line with set targets.
- Review and process trade finance transactions, including:
- Export Letters of Credit
- Import Letters of Credit
- Documentary Collections
- Bills Avalisation
- Guarantees
- Standby Letters of Credit
- Trade Loans
- Prepare and analyse credit applications for presentation to the Credit Department.
- Create suitable structures for trade finance products, processes, and procedures, including an end-to-end process flow between front-office and back-office functions.
- Manage the operational risk of the department to avoid operational and reputational losses and ensure full compliance with Bank of Africa procedures and practices.
- Develop and implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with internal departments and units to improve turnaround time (TAT) for processing transactions.
- Prepare and manage branch trade finance activities, including staff training, activation workshops, and branch visits.
- Manage regional trade finance activities, including Group syndication files and Bank of Africa cross-border transactions.
- Monitor and analyse, together with the Deputy Managing Director/Head of Enterprise Unit, the quantitative and qualitative achievements of the branch and advise on strategies and the roadmap for the Trade Finance Unit.
- Manage the performance of subordinate staff and develop and implement training and development plans to align their performance with business goals and objectives.
- Actively disseminate the Bank’s trade finance capabilities through business interactions with clients and staff, as well as formal internal and external presentations demonstrating the Bank’s ability to facilitate trade.
- Identify and negotiate business opportunities with branch clients and develop overall business development strategies to increase wallet share.

Competencies, Knowledge and Experience
- Relevant degree or Advanced Diploma in Finance, Marketing, Commerce, Banking, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
- Additional training in Trade Finance is an advantage.
- Knowledge of general banking operations.
