Job Summary

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Tradesperson 1 – Mechanic to perform planned and unplanned maintenance on mining equipment at Geita Gold Mine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mining equipment according to approved procedures and OEM standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all maintenance work using safe working practices and procedures.
• Inspect mining equipment for damage, defects, and mechanical problems.
• Document inspection findings and report them to the Supervisor.
• Carry out assigned maintenance and repair tasks according to approved procedures.
• Troubleshoot and repair mining equipment.
• Ensure work meets GGM safety standards and OEM requirements.
• Report completed work to the Supervisor.
• Immediately report unsafe equipment or working conditions.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
• Plan maintenance work before execution.
• Complete assigned work within required deadlines.
• Safely release equipment back to the mining operations team.

Education & Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• Form Four/CSEE education.
• VETA Trade Test Grade I or Trade Test Level III in Mechanics.
• Diploma or Full Technician Certificate in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• Valid Tanzania Driving Licence.
• No criminal record.

Required Experience

A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Mechanic in maintenance of mining equipment, particularly:

• Norment machines
• CAT 777D
• CAT 777E
• CAT 785C
• CAT 785D trucks
• Caterpillar machinery
• RH 40
• RH 170
• CAT 640 excavators

Applicants should have proven experience in troubleshooting and maintaining Norment and Caterpillar equipment.

Important Candidate Assessment

This vacancy is highly specialised. The strongest candidates will be mechanics who already have:

1. Trade Test Grade I / Level III, plus the required mechanical qualification.
2. At least 2 years of relevant mining-equipment maintenance experience.
3. Hands-on experience with CAT 777/785 series trucks and Caterpillar equipment.
4. Experience troubleshooting heavy mining machinery.
5. A valid Tanzania driving licence.

A general automotive mechanic without experience working on heavy mining equipment may not meet the experience requirement.
