About The Opportunity

Plan International Tanzania is seeking skilled and experienced Translators to support its teams in Geita, Mwanza and Nkasi.

The role will focus on translating written correspondence between English and Swahili, while ensuring that the original meaning, tone and intent are accurately maintained.

Translators will also support the review and screening of translated correspondence for accuracy, grammar, clarity and appropriate content. They will organise translated documents and related records and work closely with Community Programme Coordinators, Data Entry Clerks and Interns to ensure translations meet the required quality standards and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate written correspondence from English to Swahili and from Swahili to English while maintaining the original meaning, tone and intent.
  • Review and screen translated correspondence for accuracy, grammar, clarity and appropriate content.
  • Organise translated documents and related records.
  • Work closely with Community Programme Coordinators, Data Entry Clerks and Interns to ensure translations meet required quality standards.
  • Complete translation assignments within established deadlines.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Qualifications And Experience

Plan International Tanzania is particularly looking for candidates with:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili.
  • At least 2 years of professional translation experience.
  • A Diploma in Linguistics, Language Studies or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Good typing skills, with a minimum speed of 50 words per minute.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
