Job Summary

The Sales Manager – East Africa will support the Area Director of Sales (DOS) in developing and implementing the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) sales strategy for hotels within the assigned area.

The role is responsible for driving MICE business, achieving room and revenue targets, managing group quotations and business pipelines, supporting sales teams, and ensuring that customer negotiations and contracts comply with Meliá Hotels International policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Area DOS in developing the MICE segment sales strategy for hotels under their responsibility to achieve the objectives defined in each hotel’s Business Plan.
  • Support the Area DOS in developing measurable and qualitative objectives for the Group Cluster team and internal sales teams at decentralised hotels.
  • Be responsible for achieving the MICE segment budget, including:
    • Room nights.
    • Room revenue.
    • Room rental.
    • Food and Beverage (F&B) revenue associated with groups.
  • Manage the Group Quotation team for hotels within the sales area.
  • Participate in preparing MICE segment budgets and the Annual Business Plan for hotels in the sales area.
  • Achieve or exceed the approved annual MICE budget for Cluster hotels in terms of room sales and Average Room Rate (ARR).
  • Increase the number of accounts and events while growing revenue from:
    • Banqueting room sales.
    • Banquets.
    • Audio-visual services.
    • Other MICE-related revenue streams.
  • Prepare weekly projections and re-projections for the MICE segment, including room nights and room revenue.
  • Prepare group production reports by hotel and source of business for three months and one year in advance.
  • Work jointly with Revenue Management and the Area DOS to analyse group production and business performance.
  • Prepare standard reports on group demand trends for hotels within the area.
  • Submit reports to the Area DOS, Area Revenue and Corporate Office Directors, and General Managers of decentralised hotels.
  • Prepare and supervise quotations for leads involving 10 or more rooms, with or without banqueting rooms.
  • Maximise business opportunities across:
    • Rooms.
    • Banqueting rooms.
    • Food and Beverage.
    • Other group-related revenues.
  • Analyse incoming requests and the percentage of business that has materialised.
  • Use market analysis and results to define new actions for increasing business acquisition.
  • Review and ensure negotiations, customer contracts and credit policies comply with Meliá Hotels International policies and procedures.
  • Update, manage and control group business and its database.
  • Ensure information in the FOCUS system is accurate and up to date.
  • Report any issues relating to the FOCUS system to the relevant department.
  • Ensure the correct use of the groups tool, FOCUS.
  • Supervise and support Sales Coordinators and Sales Executives in decision-making, including Cluster Groups and internal sales teams at decentralised hotels.
