ROLE PURPOSE

To manage a brewing operation in a shift in order to produce quality wort and beer at optimum cost in the most efficient and safest manner, while maintaining good team morale.

TOP ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Plan and acquire the requirements for the shift.
• Manage the team, including development and coaching.
• Foster good occupational health and environmental practices during production and maintenance.
• Maintain good working relationships within the team and with other shifts.
• Manage the complete brewing process from milling, wort production, fermentation and filtration.
• Uphold and advance quality standards by ensuring quality is maintained at source.
• Maintain hygiene of the brewhouse and cellars, including vessel Cleaning in Place (CIP).
• Understand and use MMS best practices (tools and techniques) to drive improvements and performance.
• Understand quality triggers and use the Escalation Matrix effectively for process deviations and breakdowns requiring support.
• Manage assets and processes on a shift basis.
• Manage costs by ensuring minimal process waste and effective inventory management.
• Facilitate problem-solving processes.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives at shift level.
• Foster smooth, two-way and effective communication.
• Ensure effective generation of reports and records.
• Maintain basic chemical hygiene and chemical handling.
• Ensure beer and material posting is completed on time in SAP.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Qualification

• BSc in Food Science and Technology or any other degree in the field of natural sciences.
• At least 2 years’ experience in active brewing practices in an established brewery.
• IBD certification will be an added advantage.
