Role Summary
The Application Developer will design and deliver scalable, cloud-native enterprise applications that support critical systems for major institutions across East Africa. The role requires strong full-stack development capability, cloud deployment expertise, and the ability to take ownership from design through to production.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development
- Design and develop full-stack web and mobile applications
- Build scalable enterprise systems for multiple industry sectors
- Ensure applications are secure, performant, and production-ready
API & Backend Engineering
- Develop RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
- Build high-throughput backend systems
- Design and integrate GraphQL services where required
Cloud & DevOps
- Develop cloud-native applications on Azure or AWS
- Use Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work with architects, UX designers, and stakeholders
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering standards
- Mentor junior developers
Performance & Optimization
- Identify and resolve system performance bottlenecks
- Optimize applications for scalability and reliability
- Ensure enterprise-grade system stability
Pre-Sales & Solution Design
- Participate in technical solution workshops
- Support pre-sales scoping and proposal development
- Contribute to system architecture discussions
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated with modern frameworks and tools
- Continuously improve development practices and system design
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3+ years software development experience
- Strong experience in enterprise or consulting environments
- Proficiency in:
- React.js (frontend)
- Node.js (backend)
- Python (backend/automation)
- .NET / C#
- Experience with RESTful APIs and GraphQL
- Databases:
- PostgreSQL / MySQL
- MongoDB / Redis
- Cloud platforms:
- Microsoft Azure or AWS
- Version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
- Agile development methodologies
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering
- Information Technology
- Related technical field
- Master’s degree or MBA (technology-focused) is an added advantage
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Azure Developer Associate
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate
- Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
- Google Professional Cloud Developer
- Certified Scrum Developer
