Role Summary
The Data & AI Solutions Engineer transforms enterprise data into intelligent, AI-powered systems that deliver immediate business value. The role combines data engineering, machine learning, and generative AI development to build scalable pipelines, AI applications, and automation systems for enterprise clients across East Africa.
Key Responsibilities
Data Engineering & Pipeline Architecture
- Design and build scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines
- Integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources (APIs, databases, IoT, third-party systems)
- Architect enterprise data platforms using:
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Databricks
- Google BigQuery
- AWS Redshift
- Implement real-time and batch processing using:
- Apache Spark
- Kafka
- Azure Data Factory
- Establish data governance, quality, and master data management frameworks
- Manage metadata, cataloging, and data lineage systems
AI & Generative AI Engineering
- Build production-grade Generative AI applications using:
- Azure OpenAI
- OpenAI API
- Google Vertex AI
- Design Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems using vector databases (Pinecone, Chroma, Azure AI Search)
- Develop Python-based AI automation pipelines (LLM workflows, preprocessing, inference)
- Implement intelligent automation using:
- n8n
- Make (Integromat)
- Azure Prompt Flow
- Build predictive ML models (fraud detection, churn prediction, forecasting)
- Design prompt engineering frameworks and responsible AI guardrails
- Stay current with LLM and AI advancements (GPT, Gemini, Llama ecosystems)
Client Delivery & Collaboration
- Work with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to define AI/data use cases
- Translate technical solutions into business value for executives
- Support pre-sales activities, proposals, and proof-of-concept development
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3+ years experience in data engineering + AI/ML or Generative AI
- Strong ETL/ELT pipeline development experience
- Experience with distributed systems (Spark, Kafka)
- Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud)
- Production experience with:
- Azure OpenAI / OpenAI API / Vertex AI
- Strong Python skills (data + AI development)
- Experience with LLM frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, Prompt Flow)
- Knowledge of vector databases and RAG systems
- Experience in automation tools (n8n / Make)
- Understanding of data governance and compliance in regulated industries
- Strong communication and business translation skills
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (mandatory) in:
- Computer Science
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data Science
- Software Engineering
- Statistics / Mathematics
- Related quantitative field
- Master’s degree is an added advantage
