Job Purpose
The Learning and Development Lead will build and lead Jaza’s learning function from the ground up, shaping how talent develops across all levels—from executive leadership to frontline teams.
This is a strategic leadership role focused on:
- Designing and executing a global learning strategy
- Building scalable learning systems
- Driving performance and capability development
- Aligning learning outcomes with business impact
Key Responsibilities
1. Learning Strategy and Leadership
- Define and drive the global L&D strategy aligned with business growth
- Build and structure the L&D function, including hiring key team members
- Design leadership development programs for senior management
- Establish frameworks to measure learning impact and behavioral change
- Implement “Train-the-Trainer” models to empower internal leaders
- Manage budgets, vendors, and learning technologies (e.g., LMS)
- Ensure learning solutions are effective in low-bandwidth environments
2. Jaza Academy Innovation and Design
- Lead the design and development of the Jaza Academy
- Develop learning solutions using EdTech tools (e.g., mobile and AI-based learning)
- Create programs tailored for rural and frontier markets
- Ensure culturally relevant and inclusive content
- Support entrepreneurship and leadership development for Jaza Stars
3. Program Implementation and Measurement
- Oversee technical training for operations, technicians, and expansion teams
- Design certification programs for workforce readiness
- Track and evaluate training effectiveness
- Link learning outcomes to business KPIs (e.g., revenue, operational efficiency)
- Mentor facilitators and program managers
4. Field Engagement
- Spend approximately 20% of time in the field
- Validate training effectiveness with frontline teams
- Ensure strong adoption of learning programs
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Business
- Organizational Development
- Instructional Design
- International Development
- Adult Education
- Or related field
- Master’s degree or relevant certification is an advantage
Experience
- Minimum 10 years in Learning & Development or Talent Strategy
- At least 5 years in leadership roles
- Experience building and scaling learning functions
- At least 3 years working in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar markets
- Experience in fast-growing or startup environments preferred
