Objective of the Role
The Technician 3 – Exploration role supports geological exploration activities by:
- Assisting geologists with drill core handling
- Conducting geological and geotechnical logging
- Supporting interpretation and planning activities
- Ensuring data quality and database accuracy
- Providing leadership support within the Core Shed operations
The position reports to the:
- Senior Supervisor – Core Shed
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Leadership
- Conduct pre-start meetings and toolbox talks
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards and procedures
- Support hazard identification and CCV activities
- Lead smaller shift teams and support daily operational targets
Core Shed & Geological Operations
- Coordinate shift activities at the main core yard
- Ensure adherence to:
- SOPs
- QA/QC standards
- Safety requirements
- Perform:
- Lithological logging
- Structural logging
- Geotechnical logging
- Preliminary geological sketches
Drill Core Handling & Validation
- Verify:
- Core cutting quality
- Core marking accuracy
- Orientation marks on drill cores
- Report required corrective actions to supervisors and geologists
- Ensure accurate and updated database entries
Sampling & Data Management
- Ensure samples are:
- Correctly collected
- Properly labelled
- Submitted to the Resource Evaluation team
- Conduct:
- Data validation
- QA/QC checks
- Data reconciliation
Team Support & Continuous Improvement
- Coach and train Technician 1 and Technician 2 staff
- Assist in supervising Core Shed shift teams
- Identify process inefficiencies and propose improvements
- Support SOP development and updates
Field Activities
Be prepared to participate in:
- Drilling programmes
- Geological mapping
- Geophysical surveys
- Geochemical surveys
Qualifications
Applicants should possess either:
- Diploma in Geology or related Geoscience field
OR
- Secondary School Certificate with extensive relevant experience
Experience Requirements
For Diploma Holders
- More than 5 years of relevant working experience
For Secondary School Certificate Holders
- More than 10 years of experience in:
- Exploration drilling
- Geotechnical logging
- Sampling operations
Knowledge & Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
Technical Skills
- Geological and geotechnical logging experience
- Drill core handling and sampling expertise
- Basic geological interpretation skills
- Strong QA/QC and data reconciliation capabilities
Computer Skills
Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Word
Communication & Leadership
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Team coordination and leadership capability
Additional Requirements
- Strong commitment to HSE standards
- Valid Tanzanian driving license
- Tanzanian citizenship required
