Position Purpose
The CNC Machinist / CNC Programmer & Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC machinery to manufacture high-quality components according to engineering specifications.
The role focuses on:
- Safe workshop operations
- Precision machining
- Production efficiency

- Quality assurance
- Cost reduction initiatives
- Continuous improvement
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Safety and Workshop Standards
- Establish and maintain high standards of:
- Occupational safety
- Housekeeping
- 5S workplace practices
- Ensure compliance with workshop safety procedures and standards.
CNC Programming and Machine Operation
- Interpret and work from manufacturing and engineering drawings.
- Program CNC machines and generate G-code using:
- Manual programming methods
- MasterCAM
- Autodesk
- Similar CAD/CAM software
- Set up and operate CNC machinery for:
- Drilling
- Grinding
- Milling
- Turning
- Monitor machine operations and make necessary adjustments to optimize performance and quality.
Production and Workflow Optimization
- Implement efficient workflow systems to improve production output.
- Ensure machining processes are completed according to specifications and deadlines.
- Support productivity improvement initiatives.
Quality Control
- Inspect finished components and products.
- Perform dimensional measurements and quality checks.
- Compare finished products against technical specifications and drawings.
- Ensure all products meet required quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive cost-saving initiatives through:
- Waste reduction
- Improved machining efficiency
- Extended tool life
- Participate in:
- Root cause analysis
- Component failure investigations
- Corrective action implementation
Engineering Support
- Participate in product and design reviews.
- Contribute technical recommendations to improve product performance and manufacturability.
Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct daily machine inspections.
- Clean and maintain CNC machinery to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Report equipment issues promptly.
Coaching and Development
- Coach and guide learners, apprentices, and junior employees.
- Support skills transfer and workplace development initiatives.

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must possess a relevant trade qualification in one of the following areas:
- Fitter and Turner
- Toolmaker
- Turner
- Other related machining trades
Experience Requirements
- Prior experience working in an engineering workshop environment.
- Proven experience operating CNC machinery.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using FANUC controls.
- Strong CNC programming and machining experience.
- Demonstrated record of high performance and quality workmanship.
Added Advantage
Experience with:
- CAD/CAM software
- Autodesk Inventor
- MasterCAM
- Other CNC programming software
will be highly advantageous.
Technical Skills
Candidates should have experience in:
- CNC Programming
- G-Code Generation
- FANUC Controls
- Milling Operations
- Turning Operations
- Precision Machining
- Engineering Drawing Interpretation
- CAD/CAM Applications
- Quality Inspection and Measurement
