Position Purpose

The Process Artisan is responsible for operating process equipment according to work instructions, conducting non-destructive quality checks, and performing routine maintenance activities.

The role focuses on:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Operating and Process Control

The successful candidate will:

  • Operate the process area according to approved work instructions and operational standards.
  • Conduct required quality checks as outlined in quality control procedures.
  • Record production waste using approved documentation and information systems.
  • Monitor waste trends and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Review process performance against established targets.
  • Complete all Short Interval Control (SIC) documentation.
  • Respond promptly to upstream and downstream process disruptions.
  • Apply approved problem-solving methodologies to address operational issues.
  • Perform housekeeping duties in accordance with 5S principles.
  • Identify and correct unsafe work practices.
  • Support fellow team members in executing operational activities.

2. Plant and Equipment Maintenance

The Process Artisan will:

  • Perform cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of machinery according to maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance activities.
  • Escalate major equipment issues to the Team Leader when necessary.
  • Participate in maintenance and cleaning campaigns.
  • Support maintenance teams during scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Participate in maintenance post-mortem reviews and investigations.
  • Monitor equipment performance trends during maintenance activities.
  • Initiate corrective actions when equipment trends indicate potential problems.

3. Quality Control and Analysis

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing non-destructive quality inspections and analyses during production.
  • Conducting quality checks specified in operating procedures.
  • Recording inspection and analysis results accurately.
  • Identifying and resolving quality-related issues using approved troubleshooting techniques.
  • Escalating unresolved quality concerns to the Team Leader.

4. Communication

The role requires active participation in team communication through:

  • Shift meetings and operational discussions.
  • Asking questions and sharing suggestions for improvement.
  • Recording issues and opportunities using the team gap list.
  • Participating in team goal reviews.
  • Supporting Focused Improvement Activities (FFA) when required.
  • Using communication tools such as shift logbooks to keep teams informed.

5. Problem Solving

The Process Artisan will:

  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques when issues occur.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to resolve challenges.
  • Escalate unresolved problems to the Team Leader when necessary.
  • Verify that corrective actions effectively eliminate identified problems.

6. Continuous Improvement

The successful candidate will:

  • Use run charts, control charts, and trend analysis to identify waste and process variation.
  • Apply tools such as:
    • Short-stop analysis
    • Pareto analysis
    • Root cause analysis
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve efficiency.
  • Record improvement opportunities on the team gap list.
  • Collaborate with specialists and team members to implement improvements.

Minimum Requirements

Academic Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • N4 Qualification in:
    • Mechanical Engineering, or
    • Electrical Engineering

Professional Qualification

  • Valid Trade Test Certificate in:
    • Mechanical Trade, or
    • Electrical Trade

Required Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and production processes.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
