Job Summary
The Relationship Manager – Islamic Banking (SME) is responsible for driving the growth of NBC’s Islamic Banking portfolio by acquiring new customers, strengthening business relationships, and growing both financing (assets) and deposits (liabilities) in full compliance with Shari’ah principles.
The role serves as the primary commercial interface between NBC and Islamic Banking customers while promoting the Bank’s Lariba Islamic Banking Proposition across Retail and SME Banking segments.
When delegated or in the absence of the Head of Islamic Banking, the incumbent will assume day-to-day leadership responsibilities for the Islamic Banking team, ensuring continuity of business growth, customer service excellence, and Shari’ah compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development & Customer Acquisition (35%)
Portfolio Growth
- Develop and execute business development plans with monthly acquisition targets.
- Acquire new Islamic Banking customers across:
- Retail Banking
- SMEs
- Institutions
- Expand market penetration and grow the Islamic Banking portfolio.
Deposit Mobilization
Promote and grow:
- Lariba Savings Accounts
- Lariba Current Accounts
- Lariba Investment Accounts
while achieving quarterly liability growth targets.
Islamic Financing
Originate and structure Shari’ah-compliant financing solutions including:
- Murabaha
- Ijarah
- Musharaka
- Mudaraba
- Wakala
in collaboration with the Credit Unit.
Market Development
- Identify untapped customer segments and geographic opportunities.
- Recommend product and pricing improvements.
- Represent NBC at:
- Islamic finance forums
- Community events
- Business exhibitions
- Trade forums
Leadership Support
- Lead customer meetings and negotiations when acting on behalf of the Head of Islamic Banking.
- Ensure business opportunities are effectively pursued and converted.
2. Customer Relationship Management & Retention (25%)
Portfolio Management
- Maintain an active portfolio of Islamic Banking clients.
- Conduct regular customer review meetings.
- Monitor account renewals and financing requirements.
Customer Service
- Act as the main contact point for escalated customer issues.
- Resolve complaints within agreed service standards.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Relationship Deepening
- Profile customer needs.
- Cross-sell appropriate Islamic Banking products and services.
- Increase customer wallet share and retention.
Customer Retention
- Monitor customer attrition.
- Implement proactive retention strategies for at-risk customers.
Service Coordination
- Work closely with branch teams to ensure consistent customer service across all touchpoints.
3. Performance Monitoring & Reporting (15%)
Business Reporting
Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering:
- New customer acquisitions
- Deposit growth
- Financing portfolio performance
- Revenue generation
- Portfolio delinquency
Performance Analysis
- Review branch Islamic Banking performance.
- Identify business gaps and opportunities.
- Recommend corrective actions.
Portfolio Quality Management
- Monitor financing portfolio delinquency levels.
- Coordinate remedial actions with:
- Branch Managers
- Credit Unit
- Collection Teams
Market Intelligence
- Analyze competitor activities.
- Monitor Islamic Banking trends.
- Provide strategic recommendations to management.
4. Branch Capacity Building & Team Enablement (10%)
Training & Coaching
- Organize product training sessions for branch staff.
- Facilitate sales capability workshops.
- Strengthen branch-level Islamic Banking knowledge.
Business Support
- Assist branches in implementing Islamic Banking business plans.
- Conduct joint customer visits and coaching sessions.
Subject Matter Expertise
Serve as the internal expert on:
- Lariba products
- Islamic contracts
- Customer engagement practices
- Shari’ah-compliant banking operations
5. Shari’ah Compliance & Risk Management (10%)
Compliance Management
- Ensure all transactions comply with approved Shari’ah principles.
- Maintain adherence to:
- Approved Fatwas
- Shari’ah Advisory Council (SAC) decisions
- Internal Islamic Banking policies
Risk Identification
- Identify and escalate Shari’ah compliance risks.
- Support implementation of corrective actions.
Audit Support
- Provide documentation during:
- Internal audits
- External audits
- Shari’ah reviews
Governance Support
- Assist with implementation of SAC decisions.
- Maintain Shari’ah governance documentation.
Educational Qualifications
Essential
Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Islamic Banking and Finance
- Business Administration

- Professional qualifications in Banking, Finance, or Accounting.
Experience Requirements
