Workshop / Equipment Manager

Position Overview
An organization based in Tanga is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Workshop / Equipment Manager to oversee the maintenance, mobilization, and management of heavy machinery and fleet operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability, efficient workshop operations, compliance with safety standards, and effective management of construction assets. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience managing equipment and workshop operations on large-scale airport infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Asset & Fleet Management
- Oversee the allocation, deployment, and utilization of construction equipment and vehicles.
- Monitor equipment performance and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate equipment mobilization and demobilization activities.
- Maintain accurate records of fleet and asset utilization.
- Ensure optimal availability of machinery to support project operations.
2. Workshop Operations Management
- Manage daily workshop operations and maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance of heavy machinery and vehicles.
- Prioritize urgent repairs and emergency breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
- Ensure workshop resources are effectively utilized.
3. Compliance, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure all machinery operates in compliance with:
- Aviation authority regulations
- Local laws and regulations
- Company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies
- Promote a strong safety culture within workshop operations.
- Conduct regular inspections and safety audits.
- Ensure workshop staff follow established safety procedures and standards.
4. Inventory & Procurement Management
- Manage spare parts inventory and stock levels.
- Monitor usage patterns and forecast inventory requirements.
- Optimize supply chain processes to reduce downtime.
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers to secure cost-effective procurement solutions.
- Ensure timely availability of critical spare parts and workshop materials.
5. Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Lead and supervise mechanics, technicians, and workshop personnel.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship.
- Conduct performance monitoring and staff evaluations.
- Promote continuous learning and skills development.
- Ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Related Engineering Discipline
Equivalent qualifications with extensive relevant experience may also be considered.
Experience Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of cumulative experience in:
- Plant management
- Fleet management
- Workshop management
- Construction equipment maintenance
Airport Construction Experience (Mandatory)
Applicants must have served as a Workshop / Equipment Manager on at least one airport construction project within the last 10 years.
Experience in airport infrastructure projects should include familiarity with:
- Airside operations
- Landside operations
- Aviation safety requirements
- Operational constraints associated with airport construction environments
Technical Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate extensive knowledge of:
Heavy Construction Equipment
Including but not limited to:
- Earthmoving machinery
- Excavators
- Bulldozers
- Graders
- Wheel loaders
- Dump trucks
Specialized Equipment
- Asphalt plants
- Concrete batching plants
- Specialized paving equipment
- Construction support machinery
Maintenance Management
- Preventive maintenance systems
- Breakdown management
- Fleet tracking systems

- Workshop planning and scheduling
