Barrick’s Africa & Middle East (AME) team is seeking a motivated Graduate Mining Engineer to join its operations at North Mara Gold Mine.

Position Summary

The Graduate Mining Engineer will support underground mining operations by assisting with mine planning, drilling and blasting quality assurance, production scheduling, and operational improvement initiatives. The role offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain practical experience while contributing to safe, efficient, and productive mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Mine Planning

• Provide timely mine plans to support underground production targets.
• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly production schedules and forecasts.
• Monitor compliance with approved mine plans through regular engagement with underground operations teams.

Drilling & Blasting

• Perform drilling and blasting Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC).
• Conduct borehole tracking to ensure drilling accuracy.
• Carry out Ikon logging for blasting operations.

Production Support

• Conduct mining equipment productivity simulations.
• Perform scenario planning to improve operational performance.
• Identify and recommend continuous business improvement opportunities.
• Reduce ore dilution and ore loss through optimized manual stope design.

Operational Support

• Work closely with underground operations to ensure mining objectives are achieved.
• Support contractors and consultants working at Gokona Underground Mine.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programmes.
• Promote safe work practices throughout mining operations.
• Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment activities.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering.
• Statutory registration as a Mining Engineer in Tanzania.

Experience

Applicants should have:

• 3 months to 1 year of practical experience in Mining Engineering.
• Exposure to underground mining operations will be an added advantage.

About North Mara Gold Mine

North Mara Gold Mine is located in Tarime District, Mara Region, approximately:

• 100 km east of Lake Victoria
• 20 km south of the Kenya border

The operation consists of:

• Gokona Underground Mine
• Nyabirama Open Pit Mine

The processing plant has the capacity to process approximately 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
