Position Description

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a qualified Survey Technician to join its mining operations team. The successful candidate will support underground mine surveying activities while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety, occupational health, and environmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Attend mandatory safety training and meetings and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report incidents and accidents promptly.
• Conduct development pickups and pickup processing.
• Record all fired rounds accurately to monitor active mining headings.
• Set up and operate the DGPS Base System.
• Compile and maintain survey data for future retrieval and analysis.
• Prepare and maintain survey station reports and mine stakeout plans.
• Position and install survey stations as directed by the Mine Surveyor.
• Monitor and maintain survey consumables, ensuring minimum stock levels are available.
• Install grade pins, lasers, and survey stations.
• Perform face mark-ups and mark-up of EH and PH holes.
• Set up survey instruments below underground stations.
• Assist the Mine Surveyor with survey control maintenance.
• Number, monitor, and maintain batteries for electronic survey equipment, including mandatory discharge records.
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report defects to the Maintenance Department.
• Carry out borehole surveys for production holes (downhole and uphole).

Qualifications

• Survey Technician Certificate.
• Technician Certificate in one of the following fields:
  • Geomatics
  • Cartography
  • Civil Engineering
  • Mining Survey
• Experience working as a Survey Assistant in an underground mining environment is required.

Experience & Skills

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in underground mining surveying.
• Practical experience and documented on-the-job training in underground mine surveying.
• Sound knowledge of conventional surveying methods.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Drone Pilot License issued by TCAA will be an added advantage.

About Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is located in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region, approximately 55 km south of Lake Victoria and 150 km southwest of Mwanza City. The underground mine produces gold, silver, and copper from narrow-vein sulphide mineralization and commenced commercial production in 2001.
