Consultancy Background
UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to develop a Gender-Responsive Climate Education Curricular Framework for Primary and Lower-Secondary Education in Tanzania.
The consultancy will focus on:
- Developing a climate education curricular framework aligned with the Tanzanian National Curriculum for primary and lower-secondary education.
- Ensuring alignment and continuity with the Upper Secondary Climate Education Framework, creating coherence across education levels.
The consultant will support the integration of:
- Climate change education.
- Gender-responsive approaches.
- Education for sustainable development.
- Active learning methodologies.
- Curriculum and policy alignment.
Key Assignment Areas
The consultant will be responsible for:
- Developing a comprehensive climate education curriculum framework.
- Ensuring alignment with national education policies and curriculum requirements.
- Integrating gender-responsive approaches into climate education.
- Reviewing existing frameworks and ensuring consistency across education levels.
- Developing pedagogical resources and guidance materials.
- Engaging with education stakeholders, curriculum institutions, and government partners.
- Supporting consultations and validation processes with relevant stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Applicants must have:
- A Master’s Degree in:
- Education
- Curriculum Studies
- Climate Change
- Environmental Science
- Or another relevant field.
Additional qualifications or demonstrated expertise in:
- Climate change education.
- Education for sustainable development.
- Curriculum development.
- Policy document development.

Professional Experience
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 8 years of experience working in the Tanzania education sector and curriculum implementation.
- At least 5 years of experience in:
- Climate education.
- Curriculum development.
- Primary and secondary education programming.
Demonstrated experience in:
- Developing pedagogical resources and curriculum frameworks.
- Integrating climate science and active learning approaches.
- Aligning educational frameworks with national policies.
- Working with:
- Ministries of Education.
- Curriculum development agencies.
- Education stakeholders.
- Multi-sector networks.
Experience harmonizing education frameworks across different levels is required.
Language Requirements
Required:
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
Additional advantage:
- Knowledge of another UN official language:
- Arabic
- Chinese
- French
- Russian
- Spanish
or another local language.
