The Tanzania Country Office is seeking a Communications Intern to support communication activities that promote transparency, public understanding, and awareness of World Bank-supported programs and results.
Job Summary
The Communications Intern will support the External Affairs Team in:
- Media monitoring and reporting.
- Social media monitoring and content support.
- Communication planning.
- Research and analysis.
- Development of success stories and multimedia content.
The intern will help communicate the impact of World Bank projects and strengthen engagement with government partners, media, civil society, and the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Media Monitoring
The intern will:
- Monitor local and online media platforms daily.
- Prepare media monitoring reports for the Tanzania Country Team.
- Develop:
- English media digest.
- Kiswahili press summary translated into English.
- Track coverage related to:
- World Bank projects.
- Development programs.
- National economic and political developments.
- Public commentary affecting World Bank operations.

- The Guardian
- Daily News
Kiswahili Media:
- Mwananchi
- Nipashe
- Habari Leo
- Other online Kiswahili platforms
2. AI-Assisted Research and Content Support
The intern will use AI tools, including WBG’s mAI, to support:
- Information research.
- Translation.
- Content summarization.
- Draft preparation.
The intern must ensure:
- Accuracy of information.
- Editorial quality.
- Appropriate communication framing.
3. Social Media Monitoring
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring platforms such as:
- X (Twitter)
- TikTok
- Blogs and other digital platforms.
- Tracking discussions related to:
- World Bank programs.
- Development issues.
- Stakeholder opinions.
- Identifying emerging issues requiring management attention.
- Supporting social media briefs and responses.
- Using AI tools to analyze:
- Sentiment trends.
- Engagement patterns.
- Online conversations.
4. Social Media Strategy Support
The intern will assist with:
- Social media action plans.
- Content calendar management.
- Audience research.
- Feedback analysis.
- Social media performance tracking.
- KPI reporting.
- Monitoring emerging communication trends, including AI-driven content.
5. Results Storytelling
The intern will support development communication activities through:
- Conducting interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders.
- Writing web stories and success articles.
- Capturing photos and videos.
- Supporting multimedia content creation.
The role may involve travel within Tanzania.
AI tools may support:
- Interview transcription.
- Draft editing.
- Basic photo and video editing.
All content must maintain:
- Accuracy.
- Proper sourcing.
- Authentic beneficiary representation.
- Consent compliance.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
Applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or be in their final year.
- Have an academic background related to:
- Communications
- Journalism
- Media Studies
- Development Studies
- Social Sciences
- Related fields
Experience
- 0–6 years of relevant professional experience.
Required Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong interest in development work and the World Bank Group mission.
