Job Overview
Onfon Microfinance is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to manage financial records, asset management, payroll processing, reconciliations, and accounting operations while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Asset Management
- Maintain an accurate and updated fixed asset register.
- Record asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
- Conduct periodic physical verification of company assets.
- Reconcile asset records and investigate discrepancies.
- Ensure assets are properly tagged, recorded, and safeguarded.
- Prepare reports on asset movements and utilization.
2. Record Management
- Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accounting documents are properly filed and easily accessible.
- Manage document retention according to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required financial documentation.
3. Payroll & Statutory Management
- Prepare and process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
- Calculate salaries, allowances, deductions, and employee benefits.
- Prepare and submit statutory deductions, including:
- PAYE
- NSSF
- WCF
- SDL
- NHIF or applicable statutory obligations
- Ensure statutory payments are submitted within required deadlines.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and statutory balances monthly.
- Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries.
4. Financial Record Keeping
- Record financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.
- Prepare:
- Journals
- Payment vouchers
- Receipts
- Other accounting entries
- Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial information.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Assist in preparation of financial reports and management accounts.
5. Supplier Account Reconciliation
- Reconcile supplier statements with company records.
- Investigate and resolve supplier account discrepancies.
- Ensure supplier balances are accurate before processing payments.
- Maintain supporting documentation for supplier reconciliations.
- Work closely with Procurement and Operations teams to resolve supplier-related issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Or a related field.
- CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Good understanding of payroll and statutory compliance requirements.
- Excellent reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidential financial information.
- Good knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
