Job Overview

Barrick Africa Middle East is seeking a Resource and Database Manager to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for resource data management, geological modelling, database integrity, resource estimation, QA/QC, geological interpretation, team development, and supporting resource and exploration activities.

The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in geology and mining, and extensive experience in gold mining environments.

Key Responsibilities

Resource & Database Management

  • Complete resource data and workbooks within required deadlines.
  • Compile and submit annual NI 43-101 reports accurately.
  • Reconcile resource classifications and production data, including Inferred, Indicated, Measured, Ore Reserve, Grade Control, CMS, and Mill data.
  • Review QA/QC data monthly and quarterly to identify errors, biases, and trends.
  • Maintain and audit the geological database.
  • Update grade block models at least quarterly.
  • Review and recommend improved techniques for mineral resource estimation and model validation.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly charts and reports.
  • Ensure monthly milestones are achieved and planning charts are regularly updated.
  • Ensure shift and operational reports are accurate and submitted on time.

Geological Modelling & Interpretation

  • Develop an understanding of key host lithologies, alteration, and structural controls of the North Mara gold deposits.
  • Re-log historical core to support updated geological modelling.
  • Develop and implement pXRF logging procedures based on geochemical fingerprinting.
  • Improve geological logging procedures and codes and train site personnel.
  • Support geological interpretation and cross-section development.
  • Work with the resource team to model geological controls in 3D.
  • Provide input into growth drilling, near-mine exploration, and feasibility studies.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build strong working relationships with Exploration, Resource, Underground, Projects, and Technical Services departments.
  • Mentor and develop geological staff.
  • Participate in and lead key technical initiatives.
  • Provide technical mentoring and peer review.
  • Prepare and participate in technical presentations.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

The position will have significant responsibility for maintaining Barrick’s safety standards, including:

  • Supporting the Journey to Zero safety programme.
  • Ensuring employees understand their duty-of-care responsibilities.
  • Verifying critical controls for tasks involving fatal risks.
  • Conducting at least two Critical Control Verifications per week.
  • Conducting safety audits and workplace interactions.
  • Ensuring personnel have appropriate tools and PPE.
  • Ensuring compliance with safe-work practices and applicable legislation.
  • Participating in incident investigations.
  • Promoting safety meetings and near-miss reporting.
  • Ensuring Field Level Risk Assessments are properly completed.
  • Ensuring employees are appropriately trained and authorised for their tasks.
  • Maintaining compliance with mine planning, design, and profile standards.

Environmental Management Responsibilities

The role will also support the Environmental Management System by:

  • Taking accountability for EMS effectiveness.
  • Supporting environmental policies and objectives.
  • Ensuring resources are available for effective environmental management.
  • Communicating the importance of environmental compliance.
  • Promoting continual environmental improvement.
  • Supporting management in demonstrating environmental leadership.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology or a related field, such as Engineering or Metallurgy.
  • Active registration and good standing with a recognised professional association.
  • Strong knowledge of mining operations, safety regulations, and competency frameworks.

Experience & Competencies

Applicants should have:

  • At least 10 years of progressive professional experience.
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Experience with geological modelling software, particularly Seequent Leapfrog and Maptek Vulcan.
  • Advanced knowledge of mineralogy, geochemistry, and structural geology of gold-forming systems.
  • Experience with databases and GIS.
  • Experience working with gold deposits.
  • Experience in mine geology or near-mine exploration.
  • Experience in open-pit or underground mining environments.
  • Strong analytical and logical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A valid manual driving licence and experience driving on mine sites.
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills.
