Job Summary
NCBA Bank is seeking an experienced Branch Manager to provide branch and agency leadership, drive business growth and profitability, develop employees, and maintain excellent customer experience and operational standards.
The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day branch operations while ensuring effective controls, risk management, compliance, and achievement of business targets.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth & Financial Performance
- Develop and implement strategies to acquire new customers and increase existing customers’ share of wallet.
- Drive branch revenue, profitability, and business growth.
- Monitor branch performance and prepare regular reports.
- Manage portfolio risks within the Bank’s risk appetite.
- Identify cross-selling opportunities across banking products and business units.
- Conduct market intelligence and identify emerging business opportunities.
- Prepare and review the branch’s annual business strategy.
- Build relationships with key customers and business influencers.
Risk Management & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with branch controls, KYC, AML, operational risk, and security requirements.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery processes.
- Conduct supervisory checks and ensure proper branch controls.
- Close audit exceptions promptly.
- Maintain accurate and timely reports.
- Control branch operating expenses and ensure adherence to approved budgets.
Customer Experience
- Deliver high-quality customer service and meet agreed turnaround times.
- Address customer complaints promptly.
- Coordinate customer feedback initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of branch presentation.
- Ensure availability of ATMs, cash deposit machines, and other service channels.
- Strengthen customer loyalty and relationships.
People & Leadership
- Develop and motivate a high-performing branch team.
- Set performance objectives and conduct staff appraisals.
- Provide coaching, training, guidance, and support.
- Manage staff performance, disciplinary matters, and grievances.
- Support succession planning and resource allocation.
- Ensure staff complete required learning and development programmes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field with an Upper Second classification or GPA of 3.0.
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- AKIB, CPA (K), CSAPs or relevant professional qualification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and banking systems.
Experience Requirements
Applicants should have:
- At least 8 years of banking experience.
- Strong exposure to branch operations, credit management, and business development.
- At least 4 years in a management role.
- At least 2 years in branch operations.
- Experience in business development as specified in the vacancy.
- Proven record of consistently exceeding business targets.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent knowledge of banking products.
Reporting Structure
- Direct reports: 3–5 employees
- Indirect reports: 4–7 employees
- Balance sheet responsibility: KES 2 billion–5 billion
