We are now seeking a highly capable, disciplined, and detail-driven Accountant to join our growing Finance Department and help sustain our financial integrity and operational excellence.

Role Summary

The Accountant is a trusted and critical member of the Finance Department, responsible for safeguarding the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of LUMAC Tanzania’s financial records.

This role sits at the operational heart of the company, ensuring:

  • Every financial transaction is correctly recorded
  • All compliance obligations are fulfilled
  • Management receives accurate and timely financial intelligence
  • Internal controls are maintained and strengthened

The ideal candidate is not merely a record-keeper, but a proactive financial steward who brings discipline, analytical thinking, and professional pride to every task.


Key Responsibilities


A. Financial Records & Bookkeeping

  • Record, verify, and post all daily financial transactions (receipts, payments, journals, adjustments).
  • Maintain audit-ready filing systems for all source documents.
  • Ensure transactions are recorded in the correct accounting period.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage inventory ledgers and disposals.
  • Review and reconcile petty cash transactions regularly.

B. Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management

  • Perform accurate monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Conduct physical cash counts and reconcile balances.
  • Monitor daily cash flow and flag unusual variances.
  • Maintain secure custody of cash, cheques, and payment instruments.
  • Liaise with banking institutions as required.

C. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process and execute timely payments to suppliers and creditors.
  • Maintain up-to-date creditor schedules and payment tracking.
  • Issue and follow up on client invoices.
  • Prepare debtor and creditor ageing reports.
  • Reconcile AP and AR ledgers monthly.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Service teams to ensure invoice accuracy and tax compliance.

D. Tax Compliance & Regulatory Obligations

  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax regulations (VAT, WHT, PAYE, corporate income tax).
  • Prepare and file timely VAT and withholding tax returns.
  • Verify supplier/client invoices for correct VAT and EFD compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise management proactively.
  • Liaise professionally with TRA and tax advisors.

E. Financial Reporting & Management Accounts

  • Prepare monthly management accounts:
    • Income Statement
    • Balance Sheet
    • Cash Flow Statement
    • Variance Analysis
  • Produce quarterly performance reports with commentary.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning.
  • Prepare Annual Financial Statements in coordination with external auditors.
  • Maintain and adhere to a financial reporting calendar.

F. Audit Support & Internal Controls

  • Coordinate annual external audit processes.
  • Prepare schedules and respond to auditor queries.
  • Strengthen internal control systems.
  • Identify process gaps and implement improvements.
  • Conduct internal spot-checks on cash and inventory.

G. Payroll & Staff Financial Administration

  • Process accurate monthly payroll.
  • Ensure correct statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, HELSB).
  • Maintain confidential payroll records.
  • Process staff expense claims and reimbursements.
  • Remit payroll-related statutory payments on time.

H. Accounting Systems & Operational Support

  • Maintain accounting software integrity (QuickBooks preferred).
  • Ensure data accuracy and system backups.
  • Develop Excel-based financial models and trackers.
  • Provide financial guidance to Sales, Operations, and HR.
  • Perform other finance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements


Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
  • Professional qualification is an advantage:
    • CPA (T)
    • ACCA (Partly/Fully Qualified)
    • CMA or equivalent

Additional certifications in tax, ERP systems, or financial management are highly regarded.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years hands-on accounting experience.
  • Experience in trading, manufacturing, construction, or import/export businesses is an advantage.
  • Prior experience with audits and TRA compliance preferred.
  • Payroll and multi-currency accounting experience is an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, Tally, or similar systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, financial modelling).
  • Strong knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws and TRA EFD requirements.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to produce professional financial reports for management.
