About the Role

The Assistant Laundry Manager will support the operational management of the laundry department at Riu Jambo Zanzibar. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of linen and garment care, ensuring efficient laundry operations, promoting chemical and machinery safety, and supporting excellent guest service.

The successful candidate will be an energetic, detail-oriented leader with strong technical knowledge of commercial laundry operations and the ability to lead and develop a multicultural team.

Key Responsibilities

Laundry Operations

• Assist in directing daily laundry operations, including washing, drying, ironing, uniform maintenance and valet laundry services.
• Ensure all textiles meet RIU’s standards for quality, cleanliness and consistency.
• Support efficient laundry throughput and departmental operations.

Quality and Safety

• Maintain high standards of sanitation and fabric care.
• Ensure proper and safe operation of laundry machinery.
• Ensure compliance with health, chemical safety and RIU operational protocols.
• Monitor the appropriate use of laundry chemicals and equipment.

Team Leadership

• Guide, train and motivate a multicultural laundry team.
• Mentor team members and support their professional development.
• Maintain high levels of employee morale, productivity and performance.
• Provide hands-on leadership in a fast-paced resort environment.

Collaboration

• Work closely with the Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Front Office and Maintenance departments.
• Coordinate linen turnaround requirements across departments.
• Support seamless operations and contribute to improved guest satisfaction.

Inventory and Cost Control

• Assist in managing departmental expenses.
• Monitor chemical dosing and usage.
• Support effective linen management.
• Monitor water and energy consumption and promote conservation.
• Manage departmental stock inventories.
• Support cost efficiency without compromising quality.

Guest Experience

• Maintain high standards for guest valet services and resort linens.
• Ensure guest laundry requirements are handled efficiently and professionally.
• Contribute to a comfortable and seamless guest experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience

• Proven experience as an Assistant Laundry Manager, Laundry Supervisor or Senior Laundry Leader.
• Experience within a five-star or luxury all-inclusive resort is preferred.

Technical Knowledge

• In-depth knowledge of commercial laundry machinery.
• Strong understanding of wash formulas and chemical safety.
• Knowledge of fabric care and garment stain treatment.
• Understanding of laundry quality and operational standards.

Leadership and Professional Skills

• Strong hands-on leadership abilities.
• Ability to mentor, develop and empower team members.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
