Job Summary

The Branch Credit Analyst is responsible for reviewing, challenging, and approving credit applications within the delegated lending authority.

The role provides an important credit-risk control function by ensuring that credit decisions are based on sound financial analysis, comply with NBC policies and regulatory requirements, and balance business growth with prudent risk management.


Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Approval & Risk Decision-Making – 60%

  • Review, assess, approve, or decline credit applications within delegated authority.
  • Critically review credit proposals prepared by Credit Analysts.
  • Check the accuracy and completeness of credit assessments.
  • Conduct financial analysis and evaluate credit risks.
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies and procedures.
  • Apply independent judgment when approving credit facilities.
  • Identify key risks, mitigating factors, and conditions required before approval.
  • Ensure decisions comply with:
    • Retail Credit Policy
    • Risk Appetite Framework
    • Regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Escalate applications exceeding delegated authority.
  • Return or decline inadequate applications with clear reasons and feedback.
  • Monitor portfolio concentration, industry exposure, and emerging risks.
  • Maintain controls against fraud, misrepresentation, and policy violations.
  • Verify employer confirmations, customer due diligence, and customer information.
  • Ensure restricted customers and suspended branches are not processed.
  • Participate in Credit Committees and other approval forums where required.

2. Credit Assessment Oversight – 10%

  • Guide and coach Credit Analysts on complex or high-risk applications.
  • Challenge credit assessments where necessary.
  • Ensure consistency and quality in credit underwriting.
  • Support improvements to credit assessment methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Review structured lending and secured-credit proposals.
  • Assess whether proposed risk mitigants are appropriate and sufficient.

3. Loan Structuring & Conditions Management – 10%

  • Determine appropriate loan/facility structures.
  • Assess repayment terms and pricing recommendations where applicable.
  • Establish appropriate risk-mitigation requirements.
  • Ensure collateral and security arrangements are adequate and enforceable.
  • Approve conditions relating to:
    • Collateral registration and perfection
    • Legal documentation
    • Insurance
    • Valuations
    • Other security requirements
  • Ensure all conditions precedent are fulfilled before disbursement.

4. Stakeholder Engagement – 5%

Work closely with:

  • Legal Department
  • Treasury
  • Security Management Unit
  • Branch Network
  • Business Units

The role will ensure stakeholders are aligned on facility structuring, collateral requirements, documentation, and disbursement readiness.

The analyst will also provide timely and constructive feedback on credit decisions to improve service delivery and turnaround times.


5. Portfolio Risk Monitoring & Governance – 10%

  • Monitor approved credit facilities and identify emerging risks.
  • Support portfolio reviews and risk-remediation initiatives.
  • Contribute to early-warning strategies.
  • Support credit-policy development and reviews.
  • Contribute to risk-appetite assessment.
  • Strengthen credit governance frameworks and controls.
  • Recommend measures to improve portfolio quality and manage risk exposure.

6. Compliance & Regulatory Adherence – 5%

  • Ensure credit decisions comply with internal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory developments and credit-risk best practices.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Ensure audit findings are addressed on time.
  • Maintain complete and accurate credit-approval records.

Education Requirements

Applicants must have a:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
    • Finance
    • Banking
    • Business Administration
    • Economics
    • Related field

Experience Required

Candidates need at least 1 year of relevant experience in one or more of the following:

  • Credit Risk
  • Credit Underwriting
  • Lending Operations
