Position Overview

NBC is the oldest serving bank in Tanzania, offering retail, business, corporate, investment banking, and wealth management services.

This role focuses on acquiring, managing, and growing relationships with Small and Medium Business (SME) customers through a proactive, consultative banking approach.


Job Summary

The Business Relationship Manager is responsible for:

  • Building and managing SME client relationships
  • Delivering tailored financial solutions
  • Growing asset and liability portfolios
  • Ensuring strong customer experience and retention
  • Managing credit quality and portfolio risk

Key Accountabilities

1. Sales and Relationship Management (40%)

  • Acquire, grow, and retain SME clients to maximize portfolio profitability
  • Increase wallet share through cross-selling NBC products and services
  • Conduct regular client meetings with clear business objectives
  • Understand client business cycles and provide tailored financial solutions
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of business opportunities
  • Maintain CRM records for key clients (top borrowing and non-borrowing customers)
  • Drive referrals to expand asset and liability portfolios
  • Ensure consistent client engagement and value-added service delivery

2. Customer Service (20%)

  • Deliver high-quality, proactive client service experience
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries and complaints
  • Provide clear communication on products, services, and procedures
  • Maintain accurate client interaction records
  • Coordinate effectively with internal bank departments
  • Use customer feedback to improve service delivery

3. Compliance and Risk Management (20%)

  • Ensure compliance with KYC, AML, and sanctions policies
  • Review and maintain complete and updated client documentation
  • Identify and manage potential problem accounts early
  • Monitor client transaction trends and financial behavior
  • Prepare and submit credit applications and renewal documentation
  • Manage loan review cycles and ensure timely renewals (90 days before expiry)
  • Follow up on arrears, excesses, and outstanding securities
  • Maintain credit file accuracy and quality
  • Stay updated on industry and sector risk trends

4. Teamwork and Networking (10%)

  • Participate in branch meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Collaborate with Retail, Corporate, Treasury, and Credit teams
  • Build relationships with internal product specialists
  • Engage in community and business networking activities
  • Provide input into cross-functional performance reviews

5. Self-Development (10%)

  • Stay updated on NBC policies, procedures, and regulatory updates
  • Complete mandatory compliance and professional training
  • Continuously develop skills aligned with career growth
  • Improve knowledge of banking products and services

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in:
    • Business
    • Accounting
    • Commerce or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of banking experience
