Position Summary

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking a Capital Controller to join its Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial control, monitoring, reporting, and administration of capital expenditure (CAPEX), ensuring that capital projects and investments are accurately recorded and managed in line with company policies, financial controls, and applicable accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the organization’s CAPEX portfolio.
  • Prepare and maintain capital expenditure budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Review and control capital project expenditure against approved budgets and business cases.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of capital projects and fixed assets.
  • Monitor project commitments, purchase orders, invoices, and accruals.
  • Perform monthly CAPEX reconciliations and reporting.
  • Assist with asset capitalization and ensure assets are correctly classified and recorded.
  • Monitor project expenditure from initiation through completion and handover.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports to management on capital projects and expenditure.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and relevant accounting standards.
  • Support internal and external audits relating to CAPEX and fixed assets.
  • Work closely with project managers, procurement, engineering, operations, and finance teams.
  • Identify financial risks, control weaknesses, and opportunities to improve CAPEX processes.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and audit trails for capital expenditure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CPA(T), CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Training or certification in capital/project accounting or financial management is an added advantage.

Experience & Skills

  • 3–5+ years of relevant experience in financial control, management accounting, capital accounting, or a similar role.
  • Experience in mining, minerals, metals, engineering, or heavy industry is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing and controlling CAPEX budgets and capital projects.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting, capitalization, and asset registers.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial variance analysis.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
  • Experience preparing management reports and financial analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a project-driven environment.
  • Experience dealing with auditors and maintaining strong financial controls.
