Job Overview
The Communications Officer – Urban Youth Programming will lead communications and advocacy activities for urban youth programming.
The role will support communication strategy, multimedia content production, digital media management, donor visibility, media engagement, and stakeholder collaboration across Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
The successful candidate will help communicate the impact of programmes focused on urban youth empowerment, health systems strengthening, and gender equality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communication Strategy & Campaign Planning – 25%
- Implement project communication and advocacy strategies in line with World Vision Tanzania and donor requirements.
- Develop communication plans for:
- Public campaigns
- Events
- Advocacy initiatives
- University and college outreach
- Coordinate integrated messaging around urban youth empowerment, health systems strengthening, and gender equality.
- Ensure communication strategies and monthly campaign schedules are implemented on time.
- Align communication activities with project technical milestones.
- Increase youth and institutional engagement.
2. Content Creation, Storytelling & Multimedia Production – 25%
- Produce high-quality and ethical communications content, including:
- Human-interest stories
- Case studies
- Blogs
- Photo essays
- Short videos
- Conduct field visits to urban project sites, health facilities, and university campuses.
- Gather firsthand stories from beneficiaries and project partners.
- Maintain an organized digital content repository.
- Manage project photography, videography, press releases, and publications.
- Ensure safeguarding and ethical storytelling standards are followed.
- Produce impactful human-interest stories for donor reporting, websites, and social media platforms.
3. Digital Media Management & Audience Engagement – 15%
- Manage World Vision’s digital platforms, including:
- X
- Official website
- Create digital campaign materials such as:
- Infographics
- Flyers
- Social media headers
- Monitor digital engagement metrics.
- Track online campaign reach and performance.
- Optimize digital messaging for urban youth audiences.
- Keep project web pages and social media channels updated.
4. Donor Visibility & Reporting Compliance – 15%
- Ensure compliance with Government of Canada (GAC) and AHADI branding and visibility requirements.
- Ensure correct use of donor logos across printed, digital, and event materials.
- Develop donor visibility materials, including:
- Fact sheets
- Grant infographics
- Communications content
- Provide communications inputs for quarterly and annual project reports.
- Ensure communications materials meet donor branding and compliance standards.
5. Event Coordination & Media Engagement – 10%
- Organize media coverage for major project activities and milestones.
- Prepare:
- Press releases
- Media kits
- Press invitations
- Press conference materials
- Support media engagement during project launches and Steering Committee meetings.
- Build professional relationships with:
- Journalists
- Broadcasters
- TV stations
- Radio stations
- Print media
- Digital news outlets
- Coordinate professionally branded project events.
6. Stakeholder & Implementing Partner Collaboration – 5%
- Work closely with implementing partners, including:
- TAHEA
- Baba Watoto Organization
- KIWOHEDE
- Collaborate with university student bodies to gather programme impact stories.
- Align communications with community mobilization frameworks such as:
- MenCare
- Channels of Hope (CoH)
- Ensure authentic representation of community-level interventions.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Communications
- Journalism
- Public Relations
- Marketing
- Mass Communication
- Or a closely related field

Professional training or certifications in:

Required Professional Experience
- 3–5 years of progressive experience in:
- Communications
- Public relations
- Journalism
- Digital marketing
- Experience in an NGO or international development environment is preferred.
- Proven experience leading communications for large donor-funded programmes.
- Experience with Government of Canada (GAC) or AHADI grant compliance is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated multimedia content creation experience, including:
- Photography
- Photojournalism
- Video editing
- Human-interest storytelling
- Experience managing social media platforms.
- Experience organizing public relations campaigns.
- Experience developing local media networks.
- Experience working with youth groups, university student bodies, or urban community development programmes.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in graphic design and video editing tools such as:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Premiere
- Adobe Illustrator
- Canva
- Strong understanding of donor visibility and branding requirements.
- Knowledge of GAC grant compliance requirements.
- Understanding of:
- Youth development
- Health systems strengthening
- Gender equality
- Urban social programming in Tanzania
- Familiarity with MenCare and Channels of Hope (CoH) is an advantage.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
