Job Purpose

The Control Room Operator is responsible for controlling, monitoring, and optimising plant performance to achieve safe, stable, and efficient gold processing operations.

The role involves monitoring plant performance through control systems, providing timely feedback to Process Supervisors, identifying safety and operational issues, and ensuring effective communication and reporting throughout shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Environment and Community Relations

• Adhere to company policies and procedures relating to safety, environment, health, and community relations.
• Maintain a strong safety and compliance culture.
• Perform Take 5 / FLRA assessments as required.
• Ensure operational activities are conducted in accordance with site safety requirements.

People Management

• Train and develop processing personnel to support safe, stable, and efficient plant performance during relief operations.
• Ensure personnel are appropriately trained and competent to perform assigned duties.
• Maintain clear standards and accountability across the control room operation.
• Promote effective communication and teamwork between shifts.
• Support the training of new Control Room Operators.

Plant Operations and Control

• Control, monitor, and optimise plant performance.
• Provide timely feedback to Process Supervisors regarding plant performance and safety issues.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of control plant operations.
• Monitor and control multiple screens simultaneously.
• Interpret and track operational trends in real time.
• Use SCADA systems to monitor and control plant operations.
• Respond appropriately to changes and abnormalities in plant performance.
• Follow all site-specific SOPs, policies, and operational manuals.
• Perform operational checks and housekeeping within the control room and assigned plant areas.
• Accurately record operational issues and anomalies on log sheets.
• Report operational changes to the supervisor in real time.
• Maintain shift KPIs and operational standards.

Control Room Equipment

• Care for and maintain PCs, monitors, UPS units, and other IT equipment within the Control Room.
• Ensure the Control Room is kept clean and properly organised.
• Report equipment faults and operational abnormalities promptly.

Communication and Reporting

• Maintain a high level of verbal and written communication.
• Demonstrate strong professional radio operation skills.
• Provide accurate operational information to supervisors and other relevant personnel.
• Maintain accurate shift records and reports.
• Maintain the company’s Code of Conduct and attendance requirements.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Attributes

Essential Requirements

• Typically 10+ years of experience in gold processing plant operations.
• Strong Control Room experience, preferably within gold processing plants.
• Strong computer skills with SCADA expertise.
• Ability to multitask and monitor multiple screens.
• Ability to interpret operational trends in real time.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong professional radio communication skills.
• Ability to train new operators in Control Room operations.
• Ability to maintain focus and make appropriate operational decisions in a dynamic processing environment.

Education

• Form Four Original Certificate or higher.

Desired Qualifications

• Certificate of training completion for process plant circuits.
• Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.

Additional Information

• The successful candidate should be prepared to undertake external training to complement operational requirements.
• The position may require working outside normal working hours when necessary.
• The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel on company business.
