Role Purpose
The Country Representative serves as the senior leader of WeWorld’s operations in Tanzania and is responsible for providing strategic, operational, financial, and organizational leadership.
The role oversees:
- Programme implementation
- Business development and fundraising
- Financial management
- Human resources
- Partnership development
- Security management
- Donor relations
- Government engagement
The position reports directly to the Head of Regional Unit and works closely with the Desk Officer and headquarters teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Management & Development
Strategic Leadership
- Lead development and implementation of the Country Strategic Plan.
- Ensure alignment with organizational priorities and local needs.
- Monitor programme quality and impact.
Programme Oversight
- Supervise project managers and partner coordinators.
- Ensure effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Maintain compliance with donor and organizational standards.
Child Sponsorship Programme Management
- Oversee sponsorship programme implementation.
- Ensure compliance with WeWorld Child Sponsorship procedures and standards.
- Coordinate with headquarters and sponsorship teams.
Business Development & Fundraising
- Lead identification and acquisition of new funding opportunities.
- Develop and maintain a sustainable project portfolio.
- Guide proposal development and grant acquisition processes.
Operational Sustainability
- Oversee:
- Budget management
- Procurement systems
- Asset management
- Logistics operations
- Financial sustainability
2. Representation & Advocacy
External Representation
- Represent WeWorld at:
- National forums
- Conferences
- Technical working groups
- Stakeholder meetings
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with:
- Government institutions
- Donors
- Civil society organizations
- Communities
- Development partners
Partnership Development
- Identify and strengthen strategic partnerships.
- Promote collaboration with:
- NGOs
- UN Agencies
- Donors
- Research institutions
Organizational Visibility
- Enhance WeWorld’s profile and reputation in Tanzania.
- Promote organizational achievements and impact.
3. Human Resource Management
Leadership & Staff Development
- Manage national and international staff.
- Identify staffing needs and recruitment priorities.
- Build staff competencies through coaching and development.
Inclusive Workplace Management
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ensure compliance with:
- Organizational HR policies
- Tanzanian labour laws
- Donor requirements
Performance Management
- Establish performance expectations.
- Support staff growth and accountability.
4. Security Management
Security Leadership
- Develop and oversee security plans and protocols.
- Monitor operational risks in project areas.
- Coordinate with NGOs and UN agencies on security matters.
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop:
- Contingency plans
- Emergency response procedures
- Evacuation plans
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Advanced University Degree in:
- Development Studies
- International Relations
- Social Sciences
- Political Science

- Project Management
- Related fields
Required Experience
Essential Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with international NGOs.
- Experience managing donor-funded development projects.
- Strong proposal writing and fundraising experience.
- Experience managing project budgets and financial reporting.
- Experience in security management.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as Country Representative or similar senior leadership role.
- Experience in:
- Education programmes
- Protection programmes
- Prior work experience in Tanzania or Africa.
