Role Summary
The Network Engineer will design, implement, and optimize enterprise-grade network infrastructures for high-profile clients across East Africa. The role focuses on delivering secure, scalable, and highly available networking solutions across LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, cloud, wireless, and voice systems.
Key Responsibilities
Network Architecture & Deployment
- Design and implement enterprise LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, and MPLS solutions
- Deploy and manage Wi-Fi networks across corporate, hospitality, and campus environments
- Conduct network audits and capacity planning
Network Security
- Configure and manage enterprise firewalls (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA)
- Implement IDS/IPS, NAC, VPN, and Zero Trust architectures
- Enforce network segmentation, VLANs, and secure access controls
- Manage security policies and traffic monitoring
Cloud Networking
- Design hybrid and multi-cloud network architectures (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
- Configure services such as:
- Azure ExpressRoute
- AWS Direct Connect
- Cloud Interconnect
- Manage VPC/VNet environments, routing, DNS, and security controls
- Implement secure cloud connectivity (VPN, BGP, private peering)
VoIP & Communication Systems
- Deploy and manage enterprise VoIP systems (Cisco CUCM, Asterisk, 3CX, etc.)
- Configure SIP trunks, dial plans, and call routing policies
- Ensure voice quality using QoS (DSCP, prioritization)
- Troubleshoot call quality using tools like Wireshark
- Implement VoIP security (TLS/SRTP, fraud prevention)
- Integrate with Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex
Monitoring & Support
- Implement network monitoring tools (PRTG, SolarWinds, Zabbix)
- Respond to outages and performance issues
- Lead incident response and troubleshooting
Documentation & Collaboration
- Produce network diagrams and IP schemas
- Maintain change management documentation
- Collaborate with system admins, security teams, and clients
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Computer Science
- IT
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Or related field
- Master’s degree is an advantage
Experience
- Minimum 3 years enterprise networking experience
- Experience in consulting or managed services environment
Core Technical Skills
- Cisco routing & switching (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLANs, QoS)
- SD-WAN deployment
- Wireless networking (Wi-Fi 6, RF planning, site surveys)
- Network security (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPN, NAC)
- Cloud networking (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud)
- VoIP and SIP systems (minimum 2 years hands-on experience)
Certifications (Minimum One Required)
- Cisco CCNA or CCNP
- Microsoft AZ-700
- CompTIA Security+ or Network+
- AWS Advanced Networking Specialty
- Google Cloud Network Engineer
- Fortinet NSE
- Palo Alto PCNSA / PCNSE
- MS-721 (Teams Voice Engineer)
Preferred Skills
- Network automation (Python, Ansible)
- Zero Trust architecture
- ITIL Foundation
- Hospitality network design
- SD-WAN platforms (Cisco Viptela, VMware VeloCloud)
