Hand in Hand Eastern Africa-Tanzania (HIHEA TZ) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania since 2018 and part of the Hand in Hand Global Network.

The organization’s vision is to empower communities, especially women, through sustainable enterprise development and job creation. HIHEA TZ currently operates in seven regions of Tanzania, namely:

  • Kilimanjaro Region
  • Arusha Region
  • Manyara Region
  • Singida Region
  • Dodoma Region
  • Simiyu Region
  • Iringa Region

The organization works with marginalized communities to promote economic and social empowerment using participatory approaches that help people fight poverty and vulnerability.


Position Summary – Driver

The Driver will be responsible for operating the assigned organizational vehicle safely and efficiently while ensuring cleanliness, maintenance, and compliance with transport regulations and organizational policies.

The role includes:

  • Providing safe transport services to staff, visitors, and organizational materials.
  • Conducting routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Maintaining accurate transport and fuel records.
  • Reporting mechanical faults promptly.
  • Supporting smooth day-to-day organizational operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  1. Drive the assigned vehicle for official duties while ensuring safety and adherence to traffic laws.
  2. Ensure the vehicle is clean, serviced, maintained, and adequately fueled.
  3. Confirm the vehicle has all required tools and equipment before trips.
  4. Maintain proper trip logs including mileage, fuel consumption, repairs, and servicing records.
  5. Prepare monthly vehicle activity reports.
  6. Ensure vehicle legal documents and driving license remain valid.
  7. Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance checks.
  8. Report mechanical faults and defects promptly.
  9. Ensure compliance with safety procedures including availability of first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
  10. Transport only authorized passengers and goods.
  11. Ensure non-staff passengers sign travel indemnity forms before travel.
  12. Report accidents, damages, or incidents in accordance with organizational procedures.
  13. Keep updated emergency contact information in the vehicle.
  14. Ensure vehicle security and proper use of installed security gadgets.
  15. Carry out official errands and messenger duties.
  16. Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Qualification

  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

Professional Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Hold a valid and clean Class ABCE driving license.
  • Possess a Government Trade Test Grade III in mechanics.

Added advantage:

  • AA Driving Certificate of Competency.

Required Skills and Competencies

Applicants should possess:

  • Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Good organizational and coordination skills.
  • Fluency in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Good understanding of Tanzanian road transport rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret road signs in English.
  • High integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Good geographical knowledge of operational areas and socio-cultural understanding of the communities where HIHEA TZ operates.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience driving company vehicles, preferably within the NGO sector.
  • Must have an accident-free driving record.
