Organizational Context
Movement Operations have been a core function of IOM since its establishment.
The successful candidate will work under:
- General supervision of the Resource Management Officer.
- Direct supervision of the Admin & Finance Assistant.
The Driver will support daily transportation and logistical operations while ensuring the safety, security, and proper maintenance of IOM vehicles.
Main Purpose of the Role
To provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for IOM staff, visitors, documents, and official materials while ensuring vehicles remain operational and well maintained.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Operations
- Drive assigned IOM vehicle(s).
- Ensure safe transportation of staff and visitors.
- Select the safest and most efficient travel routes.
- Use vehicles only for authorized official duties.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections, including:
- Tires
- Brakes
- Engine oil
- Fan belt
- General vehicle condition
- Arrange minor repairs when necessary.
- Ensure vehicles remain clean and roadworthy.
- Schedule regular servicing and maintenance.
Inventory Management
- Maintain records of vehicle spare parts.
- Conduct monthly inventories of spare parts.
- Monitor vehicle maintenance requirements.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain daily vehicle logbooks.
- Prepare monthly reports on:
- Mileage
- Fuel consumption
- Vehicle usage statistics
- Keep accurate transportation records.
Security & Confidentiality
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding organizational matters.
- Support safety and security of passengers and property.
- Identify and minimize potential security risks during transportation.
Airport & Logistics Support
- Meet official visitors at airports.
- Assist with immigration and customs formalities when required.
- Facilitate transportation arrangements for official personnel.
Mail & Document Delivery
- Collect and deliver:
- Official documents
- Pouches
- Packages
- Visit:
- Government offices
- Airports
- UN agencies
- Project locations
- Partner institutions
Administrative Support
When required, assist with:
- Photocopying documents.
- Answering telephone calls.
- Record keeping.
- Basic office administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications
Education
Candidates must possess either:
Option 1
- High School Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of relevant driving experience
Option 2
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution
Additional Requirement
- Valid National Driving Licence
Universities must be recognized by UNESCO’s World Higher Education Database.
Required Experience
Candidates should have:
- Knowledge of traffic laws and driving regulations.
- Experience driving different vehicle types and models.
- Skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.

Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is best suited for candidates who have:
✔ Valid Tanzanian driving licence
✔ At least 2 years of professional driving experience
✔ Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance
✔ Strong record-keeping skills
✔ Ability to communicate in English and Kiswahili
✔ Experience working with NGOs, government institutions, international organizations, or corporate offices
✔ High standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and safety awareness
