About the Role

The Field Technician is responsible for installing, supporting and maintaining customer networks and core network infrastructure for both wireless and fibre technologies.

The role aims to ensure high network availability, timely customer installations, quality technical support and compliance with the company’s service delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Installation and Infrastructure Implementation

• Implement core network infrastructure and associated power supply systems.

• Ensure installations are validated by the technical team and comply with Habari Node’s standards.

• Ensure all installations are properly documented and meet required quality standards.

2. Technical Support

• Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair issues affecting core network infrastructure.

• Conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurring technical problems.

• Liaise with Regional Team Leaders to escalate, follow up and resolve technical issues.

• Communicate ticket status and service outages effectively, following established customer support and escalation procedures.

3. Network Optimisation

• Monitor network capacity and report on network resource utilisation.

• Conduct preventive maintenance to support proactive customer service.

• Monitor link performance and recommend necessary network upgrades.

4. Implementation Excellence

• Back up running configurations and maintain accurate installation documentation.

• Document and follow preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards at all times.

5. Operational Excellence and Equipment Management

• Keep tools and equipment properly maintained and in good working condition.

• Reconcile equipment collected from stores and recovered from customer sites.

• Document all recovered items and equipment reassignment.

6. Driving and Fleet Management

• Drive to and from assigned job sites.

• Keep company vehicles clean and ensure all items inside are properly arranged.

• Ensure vehicles are serviced on time to prevent breakdowns.

• Maintain accurate mileage records, service records and parts replacement information.

7. Training and Mentoring

• Train and mentor interns and junior technicians through on-the-job guidance.

• Support the development of technical competencies among less experienced employees.

8. Reporting and Communication

• Provide accurate feedback and timely updates on all assigned duties.

• Submit site survey reports within 24 hours.

• Complete installations on the assigned day.

• Respond promptly to emails, WhatsApp messages and other formal office communications, ensuring responses are provided within 15 minutes.

9. Teamwork and Innovation

• Maintain a positive team spirit and effective working relationships within the Operations team and across the organisation.

• Conduct radio frequency (RF) modelling and prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for core infrastructure and extended Wi-Fi solutions when required.

• Assist Sales and Marketing teams in responding to requests for quotations, requests for information, bids, proposals, solution descriptions and statements of work.

10. Power Systems and Site Audits

• Monitor power systems and performance.

• Perform power sizing, calculations and installations, including surge protection and grounding.

• Conduct site audits and review existing infrastructure.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or a related technical field, or a Diploma in a relevant discipline from a recognised university or institution.

• For degree holders: At least one year of experience in the ISP and/or telecommunications industry.

• For diploma holders: At least two years of experience in the ISP and/or telecommunications industry.

• Ability to perform RF modelling and experience in solution design.

• Strong understanding of telecommunications networks, technologies and supporting power solutions.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Successful candidates will be assessed against the following performance targets:

• Network Availability: 99.98%.

• Daily Productivity: Five installations, customer support tasks and/or equipment recoveries per day.
