WWF-Tanzania is inviting applications from motivated and detail-oriented graduates for the position of Finance Intern.

Role Purpose

The Finance Intern will support the Accounting Unit in daily financial and administrative operations while gaining practical experience in donor-funded financial management, accounting controls, audit preparation, and compliance.

The internship is designed to provide supervised learning opportunities in financial documentation management, internal controls, procurement compliance, and audit support while ensuring adherence to WWF financial policies and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting Support

  • Support filing, organization, and maintenance of financial documents including invoices, vouchers, contracts, and payment support documents.
  • Ensure financial documents are complete, properly referenced, and easily accessible.
  • Assist in verifying supporting documents such as receipts, approvals, and reconciliations before processing payments.
  • Support tracking, issuance, and reconciliation of staff travel advances.
  • Assist in reviewing staff retirements and claims for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with WWF policies.
  • Identify missing documents, discrepancies, or unusual transactions and report them to Finance staff.

Procurement & Compliance Support

  • Assist in reviewing procurement documents to ensure compliance with internal procedures, laws, and donor requirements.
  • Organize procurement files and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Support tracking of procurement documentation for completeness and timely processing.

Audit & Internal Control Support

  • Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Retrieve and compile supporting documents for audit requests.
  • Support tracking and follow-up of audit documentation requirements.
  • Observe WWF internal controls, segregation of duties, and ethical standards.

Field Programme Finance Support

  • Provide finance support for field activities, including verification of accountability documents.
  • Assist in reviewing field financial reports and supporting documentation.
  • Support finance and administrative tasks related to project implementation.

General Duties

  • Perform other finance-related duties assigned by the Accounting Unit Lead, Head of Finance and Administration, or Country Director.

  • Compliance with confidentiality and internal control procedures.
  • Improvement in understanding WWF finance processes.

Qualifications & Competencies

Required Qualifications

  • University degree or advanced diploma in:
    • Accounting
    • Commerce
    • Business Administration
    • Related fields

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Good organizational and filing skills.
  • Basic computer literacy, especially Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Personal Attributes

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Willingness to learn and work under supervision.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team.
