Role Summary

The Financial Controller will oversee:

  • Financial planning and analysis
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • Capital expenditure (Capex) and cost control
  • Cash flow management
  • Internal controls and reporting

The role also focuses on improving financial systems, processes, and reporting accuracy.


Key Responsibilities

Budgeting and Planning

  • Work with the Head of Finance to prepare annual budgets and long-term financial plans
  • Ensure alignment of budgets with business assumptions and group guidance
  • Provide weekly and monthly financial insights to senior management
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial forecasts and profitability analysis

Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and presentations for executive management
  • Conduct variance analysis (actual vs budget, prior year, forecasts)
  • Produce management reporting packs highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Ensure timely reporting of full financial results (P&L, business lines, FX reviews)
  • Prepare:
    • Opex variance reports
    • Gross margin reports (weekly/bi-weekly)
    • Balance sheet reviews and reconciliations
  • Support business units with performance insights and KPI tracking

Financial Analysis

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Evaluate revenue performance, profitability, and operational efficiency
  • Support decision-making through financial modeling and scenario analysis
  • Develop business cases for investments and strategic initiatives
  • Review commissions and discounts for accuracy and competitiveness

Internal Controls

  • Ensure effectiveness of internal control frameworks aligned with group policies
  • Identify and report control issues with recommendations
  • Support internal audits and ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority (DOA)

Treasury & Working Capital

  • Oversee receivables, collections, and credit control
  • Manage payables, vendor payments, and expense processes
  • Monitor working capital KPIs
  • Optimize cash management and banking relationships

Tax & Statutory Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and filings
  • Manage tax forecasts and accounting accuracy
  • Coordinate preparation of annual statutory financial statements
  • Represent the company in tax audits and resolve disputes

Qualifications

  • Professional qualification:
    • CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent recognized by NBAA
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (added advantage)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/IAS and statutory reporting

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in financial management
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Accounting and finance operations
    • SAP and ODOO systems
    • IFRS/IAS standards
    • Tanzanian tax laws (VAT, WHT, Corporate Tax, PAYE, SDL, WCF, Transfer Pricing)
  • Key competencies:
    • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
    • Business partnering and strategic decision support
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
    • Commercial understanding of pricing, profitability, and unit economics
    • Risk identification and mitigation skills
    • Experience in process improvement and automation

Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with TRA e-filing systems and audit processes
  • Strong treasury, liquidity planning, and working capital management skills
  • Ability to lead projects and drive organizational improvements
