About the Position
TotalEnergies Marketing Tanzania Limited is seeking a motivated and committed Graduate Trainee – HSSE to support the implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality (HSSEQ) standards across its operations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting environmental sustainability initiatives, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of the company’s HSE management systems.
Context and Work Environment
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) is everyone’s responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to actively contribute to building and maintaining a strong safety culture among employees and contractors.
The role may require:
- Working extended hours when necessary.
- Availability during weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities
Training and Safety Awareness
- Coordinate and follow up on local and regulatory HSE training programs.
- Conduct internal HSE training sessions and toolbox talks.
- Lead HSE awareness campaigns to strengthen the company’s safety culture.
- Promote near-miss reporting, Golden Rules, and Stop Card usage.
Inspections and Compliance
- Conduct HSE inspections at Head Office facilities.
- Visit worksites and service stations to perform HSE inspections and assessments.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and legal requirements.
Emergency Preparedness
- Coordinate and conduct monthly HSE and REX Committee meetings and follow up on action items.
- Organize quarterly emergency drills to test preparedness and response capabilities.
- Maintain and monitor firefighting equipment at Head Office.
Incident Management
- Participate in accident investigations and reporting.
- Follow up and update HSE-related cases in RAMSES.
- Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
HSE Systems and Documentation
- Create, review, and update:
- HSE programs
- Policies
- Procedures
- Plans
- Manuals
- Track HSE management system documentation and ensure records remain current.
- Maintain the HSE procedures criticality file.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ensure availability of appropriate PPE.
- Monitor PPE inventory levels and usage.
Employee Health and Welfare
- Monitor employee health-related matters.
- Ensure food quality and safe drinking water standards.
- Monitor cleanliness and hygiene of sanitary facilities.
Environmental Management
- Support waste management and recycling initiatives.
- Improve waste segregation practices and environmental data tracking.
- Promote sustainable environmental practices across operations.
Risk Management and Sustainability
- Review annual risk assessments for Head Office operations, including:
- Industrial Hygiene (IH)
- Risk Register
- Internal Emergency Plan (IEP)
- Critical Task Analysis (CTA)
- Support implementation of:
- SRM+
- SOCRAT
- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Sustainable Change initiatives
Tender and Contractor Evaluation
- Participate in HSE evaluations of contractors and bidders for high-risk projects and activities.
Other Duties
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the HSE Manager.
Candidate Profile
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized higher learning institution.
- Professional HSE qualifications are required.
- Engineering background will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE).
- Experience in the following industries will be highly preferred:
- Oil and Gas
- Mining
- Power Generation
- Related industrial sectors
Skills and Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Effective interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- High level of commitment, professionalism, and integrity.
