Group Operations Manager Job Opportunity – Karibu Camps & Lodges

Karibu Camps & Lodges is seeking an experienced and commercially driven hospitality professional for the position of Group Operations Manager based at the company’s Head Office in Arusha, Tanzania.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence, service quality, profitability, and overall performance across all camps and lodges within the Karibu portfolio.

About the Role

The Group Operations Manager will translate company strategy into exceptional operational performance across Karibu’s camps and lodges.

The role requires a hands-on hospitality leader who can:

  • Review financial performance and operational reports.
  • Conduct property visits and quality inspections.
  • Mentor Camp Managers and operational teams.
  • Enhance guest experiences.
  • Improve profitability and operational efficiency.

The successful candidate will serve as the key link between properties and the head office, ensuring consistent delivery of Karibu’s service standards while protecting the brand’s reputation and business performance.


Key Responsibilities

Operations Management & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee daily operations of all camps and lodges to ensure consistent service standards.
  • Develop, implement, and improve operational policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular property visits, inspections, and operational audits.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Health and safety standards.
    • Hygiene requirements.
    • Environmental regulations.
    • Statutory obligations.
  • Monitor operational gaps and implement improvement plans.

Guest Experience Management

  • Drive exceptional and consistent guest experiences across all properties.
  • Use guest feedback, reviews, and satisfaction data to improve service delivery.
  • Resolve escalated guest concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Support teams in creating unique guest experiences that differentiate Karibu in the market.

Financial Performance & Cost Management

  • Take ownership of operational budgets and profitability targets.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets.
  • Analyse variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Improve:
    • Cost controls.
    • Procurement processes.
    • Stock management.
    • Supplier relationships.
    • Resource allocation.

Revenue & Business Growth Support

  • Work closely with:
    • Sales.
    • Marketing.
    • Reservations teams.
  • Support strategies to maximise:
    • Occupancy.
    • Revenue.
    • Yield performance.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and new property openings.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop:
    • Camp Managers.
    • Lodge Managers.
    • Operational heads.
  • Build a high-performing and accountable management team.
  • Work with HR on:
    • Recruitment.
    • Training.
    • Performance management.
    • Succession planning.
    • Staff retention.
  • Promote a positive service culture aligned with Karibu’s values.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide regular operational reports and insights to the Managing Director and leadership team.
  • Identify opportunities for:
    • Innovation.
    • Sustainability improvements.
    • Service enhancement.
    • Operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Hospitality Management.
    • Business Administration.
    • Or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive hospitality operations experience.
  • At least 3–5 years in a senior multi-property or group-level operational leadership role.
  • Strong experience in:
    • Luxury safari camps.
    • Lodges.
    • Remote hospitality operations.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Manage operational budgets.
    • Drive profitability.
    • Deliver operational excellence across multiple locations.
