The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a HME Mechanic to join and grow our team.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe work practices, including attending compulsory safety courses and meetings, using required PPE, reporting incidents/accidents, and adhering fully to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Follow all maintenance procedures and ensure completion of mechanical activities according to standards without causing further damage to components, systems or equipment.
- Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working-at-height and confined-space standards/procedures, and conduct pre-start checks and inspections.
- Carry out mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance to maintain heavy mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner and achieve production and cost targets.
- Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding and corrective maintenance to resolve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
- Ensure maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
- Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets and the required quality and quantity of materials and resources.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections according to maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
- Conduct mobile and plant equipment upgrades/modifications as required.
- Remove and replace engines, transmissions, torque converters, final drives, differentials, hydraulic pumps and other components.
- Provide accurate and timely feedback to the Heavy Mobile Equipment Supervisor on conditions that may affect equipment functionality.
- Ensure the Heavy Mobile Equipment Supervisor and all relevant stakeholders are kept informed of equipment availability status.
- Identify mechanical equipment and resources and select and inspect appropriate tools and equipment.
- Follow up on outstanding maintenance and repairs.
- Actively participate in training activities to gain new skills and develop full potential.
- Under the direction of the Heavy Mobile Equipment Supervisor, provide appropriate on-the-job training.
- Strip and assemble surface heavy mobile equipment.
- Keep the heavy mobile equipment workshop neat, tidy and clean.
- Perform preventive maintenance service inspections according to maintenance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with work orders, job specifications, and resource identification and inspection requirements.
Qualification Requirements
- Secondary education is mandatory.
- Diesel Mechanics Trade Certification, Full Technician’s Certificate, or VETA Grade One.
- Must have a valid Tanzania Driving Licence Class D. Class F will be an added advantage.
- Technical/vocational school, apprenticeship training, or on-the-job training, including FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or equivalent.
Experience and Competencies
- 2–3 years’ experience in a maintenance role involving basic hydraulic and diesel mechanics.
- Experience in the mining industry is essential.
- Familiarity with heavy mobile equipment and workshop activities.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting heavy mobile equipment hydraulic and mechanical systems using schematic diagrams or CAT SIS.
- Experience in mobile equipment fault finding using SIS and CAT ET diagnostic software.
- Ability to deliver and provide technical support services without supervision.
- Strong time management and planning skills to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to think logically and clearly, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Ability to perform safety inspections and identify safety hazards.
- Good vision and ability to identify different colours and symbols.
