Job Purpose
People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company in Tanzania seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to lead geological exploration, resource definition, and grade control activities.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in exploration programmes, geological interpretation, drilling supervision, resource evaluation, and geological data management to support mine development and operational decision-making.
This role is ideal for a results-driven geologist with strong gold exploration experience who is passionate about discovering, evaluating, and developing mineral resources within a dynamic mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Exploration & Geological Programmes
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise:
- Geological mapping
- Sampling programmes
- Trenching activities
- Exploration drilling
- Resource development programmes
- Develop geological interpretations, exploration models, and drilling targets.
- Design exploration strategies to identify and evaluate mineralization opportunities.
- Monitor exploration progress and recommend improvements based on geological findings.
2. Drilling & Resource Development
- Supervise:
- Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling
- Diamond drilling
- Other exploration drilling activities
- Coordinate drilling contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
- Ensure proper:
- Core logging
- Sample logging
- Photography
- Storage
- Sample handling
- Chain-of-custody procedures
- Monitor drilling productivity, sample recovery, and geological data quality.
3. Geological Data Management & Interpretation
- Analyze:
- Geological data
- Geochemical data
- Geophysical data
- Structural information
- Assay results
- Develop and maintain geological models, maps, cross-sections, and 3D models.
- Support:
- Mineral resource estimation
- Mine planning
- Grade control activities
- Reconcile geological models with production and processing results to improve operational performance.
4. Quality Assurance & Technical Reporting
- Design and manage sampling programmes according to industry best practices.
- Implement and maintain strong Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
- Prepare:
- Technical reports
- Exploration updates
- Budgets
- Work programmes
- Management presentations
- Maintain geological records suitable for:
- Technical audits
- Resource reporting
- Future project development
5. Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure exploration activities comply with:
- Health and safety standards
- Environmental requirements
- Statutory regulations
- Maintain compliance with exploration licences and company policies.
- Conduct:
- Field inspections
- Risk assessments
- Safety briefings
- Identify geological risks and recommend technical investigations.
6. Budgeting & Performance Management
- Prepare exploration budgets, work plans, and resource forecasts.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify cost optimization opportunities.
- Prepare performance reports and operational updates.
7. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop:
- Junior geologists
- Field technicians
- Sampling teams
- Drilling personnel
- Coordinate with:
- Surveyors
- Laboratory teams
- Mining engineers
- Environmental specialists
- Consultants
- Regulators
- Community relations teams
- Promote a culture of:

Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
- Geology
- Geological Engineering
- Related geoscience discipline
Added advantage:
- Professional registration with a recognized geological or engineering body.
Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in:
- Mineral exploration
- Mining geology
- Resource development
- Proven experience in gold exploration, especially:
- Structurally controlled deposits
- Greenstone-hosted deposits
- Experience managing exploration drilling programmes including:
- RC drilling
- Diamond drilling
- Strong knowledge of:
- Geological mapping
- Sampling techniques
- QA/QC protocols
- Geological modelling
- Exploration data management
- Experience supporting:
- Mineral resource estimation
- Grade control
- Mine planning activities
- Proficiency in:
- Geological modelling software
- GIS applications
- Industry-standard geological tools
- Ability to interpret:

- Assay results
- Willingness to spend substantial time at a remote project site in Handeni, Tanzania.
