Role Purpose

The Information Security Officer will be responsible for protecting the bank’s digital systems, data, and networks by identifying vulnerabilities, managing cyber risks, and ensuring compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements.

The role focuses on proactive threat detection, risk management, and continuous improvement of the bank’s cybersecurity posture.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cybersecurity Risk Management

• Conduct quarterly cybersecurity risk assessments
• Identify system vulnerabilities
• Recommend mitigation and control measures
• Maintain updated risk registers

---

2. Penetration Testing & Vulnerability Assessment

• Perform regular penetration tests
• Identify weaknesses in systems and networks
• Recommend technical security improvements
• Support remediation efforts

---

3. Security Incident Analysis

• Investigate security breaches
• Identify root causes of incidents
• Document findings and recommend corrective actions
• Support incident response processes

---

4. Network Security Management

• Manage:
  • Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
  • Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS)
  • Network monitoring tools
• Ensure continuous protection of ICT infrastructure

---

5. User Activity Monitoring

• Monitor user access and system usage daily
• Detect fraudulent or abusive activity
• Ensure compliance with access control policies

---

6. Security Framework Development

• Develop and implement cybersecurity protection plans
• Safeguard digital files and systems from:
  • Unauthorized access
  • Modification
  • Data destruction

---

7. Vendor Coordination

• Coordinate cybersecurity solutions with vendors
• Support implementation of security tools and systems
• Ensure vendor compliance with security standards

---

8. Cybersecurity Awareness & Training

• Develop and deliver cybersecurity awareness programs
• Conduct periodic training for staff
• Promote security best practices across the bank

---

9. Emerging Threat Monitoring

• Stay updated on cybersecurity trends and threats
• Advise management on emerging risks
• Recommend proactive security improvements

---

10. Process Improvement & Automation

• Review internal processes
• Recommend automation of manual processes
• Improve efficiency and reduce security risks

---

11. Revenue Protection & Fraud Detection

• Monitor revenue systems for leakages
• Identify fraud risks
• Recommend corrective and preventive measures

---

Key Competency Requirements

• Strong understanding of banking operations
• Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users
• Knowledge of Bank of Tanzania regulations
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Sound business understanding and analytical thinking

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Computer Science
  • ICT or related field
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
