Purpose of the Role

The Jumbo Operator is responsible for:

• Underground development and production drilling
• Stripping and ground support activities
• Operating mechanised electric/hydraulic jumbo drilling equipment
• Executing tasks as directed by the Underground Shift Supervisor and trainer

The role ensures safe, precise, and efficient underground drilling operations aligned with mine design specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Comply with all Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) policies and mining regulations
• Use protective equipment correctly at all times
• Report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, or injuries immediately
• Perform pre-start checks and SWICs (Safe Work Instruction Checks)
• Ensure safe working conditions for personnel and equipment

Drilling Operations

• Operate jumbo drill rigs to execute drive drill patterns
• Drill according to:
  • Site-specific drill designs
  • Survey instructions
  • Ground conditions
• Ensure accuracy in:
  • Line
  • Gradient
  • Drill profile

Ground Control & Safety at Face

• Assess ground conditions before drilling
• Apply appropriate ground support measures
• Ensure electrical installations and services are clear of drilling areas

---

Technical Coordination

• Communicate with:
  • Surveyors
  • Geologists
  • Engineers
• Optimize drill patterns to maximize advance per round
• Maintain compliance with design specifications while minimizing overbreak

---

Equipment Operation

• Operate underground jumbo drilling equipment efficiently
• Ensure safe use and handling of all machinery
• Maintain operational efficiency and minimize downtime

---

Essential Requirements

Candidates must have:

• Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in underground mining
• Proven experience operating underground jumbo drill rigs
• Strong knowledge of underground mining practices
• Valid Tanzanian driver’s license with good driving skills
• Basic first aid knowledge
• Completed secondary school education
