Purpose of the Role

The Production Longhole Driller is responsible for:

• Carrying out underground production drilling using mechanised longhole drill rigs
• Executing drilling activities according to mine design specifications
• Supporting safe and efficient underground mining operations
• Ensuring precision in drilling patterns for blasting preparation

---

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Comply with all Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) policies and mining regulations
• Use protective equipment correctly at all times
• Report hazards, accidents, and unsafe conditions immediately
• Conduct pre-start checks and SWICs (Safe Work Instruction Checks)
• Maintain safe working practices in all underground operations

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

• Perform inspections and basic maintenance before equipment use
• Ensure all tools and equipment are serviceable and safe
• Minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity
• Set up, operate, and troubleshoot longhole drill rigs

---

Drilling Operations

• Drill long holes accurately according to design patterns
• Follow mine instruction plans precisely (line, gradient, profile)
• Execute mechanised drilling using DL421 CR / DL421 equipment
• Assess face conditions and scale rock where required

---

Coordination & Communication

• Liaise with underground shift supervisors
• Communicate with surveyors, geologists, and engineers
• Assist in optimizing drill patterns and drilling efficiency
• Report equipment status and operational progress

---

Housekeeping & Documentation

• Maintain high housekeeping standards underground
• Record drilling and operational data accurately
• Ensure proper documentation of work activities

---

Essential Requirements

Candidates must have:

• Strong commitment to safety and hazard prevention
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Underground Longhole Driller
• Experience operating DL421 CR / DL421 drill rigs
• Knowledge of underground mining practices
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Basic First Aid certification
• Valid Tanzanian driver’s license
• Completed secondary school education
