Job Summary
The Legal Counsel will provide legal support to the operations of the institution, with special focus on litigation, corporate law, banking, and corporate finance matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process company legal documents, loan agreements, grants, credit documentation, and security instruments such as mortgage deeds, debentures, and guarantees.
- Review internal documents and policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Review and prepare contracts and documentation used by the company in providing microfinance services to clients.
- Assist in preparing and drafting internal and external reports, including communications to regulators.
- Provide legal support to ensure compliance with labor and employment obligations, including registration with local authorities and preparation of employment contracts in accordance with local laws.
- Provide legal opinions based on local laws regarding various operational matters.
- Prepare court documents and represent the company in courts of law.
- Manage and coordinate weekly and monthly legal reports.
- Coordinate with external legal counsels on case updates and report progress to the Head of Legal.
- Assist in the recovery of loan facilities.
- Maintain resources and oversee litigation and loan recovery cases, ensuring timely reporting and follow-up on fraud prosecutions handled by external lawyers.
- Pursue claims by subsidiaries and defend subsidiaries against third-party claims.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
- Must be an Advocate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
- At least 3 years of working experience in a law firm or busy commercial organization.
- Computer literacy.
- Strong coordination, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Self-motivated, creative, and results-oriented.
- Ability to train and mentor others.
