Position Purpose

The LV Fitter is responsible for diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs and servicing of light vehicles and equipment, as guided by the immediate supervisor and trainer.

Key Accountabilities

  • Comply with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions, including the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment.
  • Promptly report hazardous situations that cannot be corrected personally, make the necessary changes to eliminate or control hazards, and immediately report any accident or injury arising during work.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures as displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of other persons who may be affected by work activities.
  • Perform pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Ensure inspections and maintenance are carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensure that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and prepare work areas for drilling, charging or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Liaise with the Underground Shift Supervisor to:
    • Ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently.
    • Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.

Key Performance Tasks

  • Carry out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment safely and in accordance with the service sheet.
  • Utilise skills and experience to minimise machinery downtime.
  • Ensure accurate recording of maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the workshop and working areas at all times.
  • Ensure all parts are kept at minimum stock levels.
  • Read and interpret service and spare parts manuals.
  • Report all equipment faults to the Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman for scheduling into the workshop.
  • Ensure site and maintenance procedures are maintained.
  • Assist with training other tradespeople to support a constructive team environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong background working with underground mobile mining equipment, including Toyota equipment.
  • At least 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Competence in auto-electrical systems and diesel engine maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn, improve skills and gain further experience on mobile equipment.
  • Basic First Aid.
  • Ability to drive a manual vehicle with a valid Tanzanian Driver’s Licence.
  • Completed secondary school.
  • Relevant trade qualification.
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English.
