Position Purpose

The Auto Electrician will be responsible for all preventive, scheduled and breakdown maintenance on underground mobile equipment and vehicles, including light vehicles and heavy mobile equipment, drills, as well as electrical fault and failure diagnostics, as guided by the immediate supervisor and trainer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comply with all HS&E policies, procedures and instructions, including the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment.
  • Promptly report hazardous situations that cannot be corrected personally, make the necessary changes to eliminate or control hazards, and immediately report any accident or injury arising during work.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures as displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of other persons who may be affected by work activities.
  • Perform pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Ensure inspections and maintenance are carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensure that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Work to minimise equipment downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures.
  • Prepare work areas for drilling, charging or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Liaise with the Underground Shift Supervisor to:
    • Ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently.
    • Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.

Essential Requirements

  • At least 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Recognised trade qualification as an Auto Electrician.
  • Strong background working with underground mining equipment.
  • Ability to operate all types of hand tools.
  • Understanding of maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Previous experience with vehicle air-conditioning systems.
  • Ability to analyse equipment failures and use equipment diagnostic tools.
  • Auto-electrical experience on 4WD vehicles.
  • Heavy equipment electrical experience.
  • Excellent service and maintenance approach to work.
  • Willingness to learn and gain further experience on mobile equipment.
  • Ability to drive a manual vehicle with a valid Tanzanian Driver’s Licence.
