Job Purpose
The Manager – Credit Recovery is responsible for monitoring accounts showing signs of financial distress, preventing deterioration into non-performing status, and implementing effective recovery strategies for non-performing and written-off loan accounts.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Identifying accounts that exceed sanctioned limits, have expired facilities, or have incomplete compliance requirements.
- Driving the achievement of recovery targets for non-performing loans (NPLs) and written-off accounts.
- Engaging customers through telephone calls, meetings, and written correspondence to negotiate repayment arrangements.
- Recommending settlements, loan rescheduling, or compromise solutions where appropriate.
- Preparing management reports, Board papers, and regulatory submissions.
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Recommending and supporting accounts for write-off in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.
- Preparing documentation for accounts to be removed from the Special Assets Management (SAM) portfolio after exhaustive recovery efforts or settlements.
- Coordinating internal and external audits and ensuring audit findings are addressed.
- Identifying accounts requiring legal action and liaising with legal teams.
- Representing the bank in court proceedings when required.
- Representing the bank during bank and court auctions.
- Managing External Debt Collectors (EDCs) to ensure effective debt recovery.
Decision-Making Authority
The role includes authority to:
- Negotiate repayment plans with delinquent customers.
- Issue reminder letters and legal demand notices.
- Engage third-party recovery agents.
- Conduct customer visits to assess business performance and repayment capacity.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a credit risk management or credit recovery environment.
- Strong knowledge of banking legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
